Hello all, I have been a longtime reader of this forum, but finally registered, so here is my first post. Everything I have learned from here has been incredibly useful.

I recently acquired the Comcast 2-tuner DVR box with associated remote control. The only components I have left in my rack are the Integra DTR-7 receiver, DVD player, and TV. I would like to use the Comcast remote to control everything but the DVD player (there are only 3 devices on the comcast remote. For ease of use for the other people in the house, I need one remote for normal TV watching. When I watch a movie, I can use the integra remote to control DVD player and receiver. I need the comcast remote to control volume and power on the receiver. The volume portion is working fine. Yet the power is not. The comast remote has a single button for power on/power off. The integra has an on button, and a standby button.

The comcast remote will turn the receiver on, but not turn it off. I believe this is becuse of the discrete codes that integra uses for on and off. Is there a way to force the comcast remote to do this or to force the receiver to accept the signal from the comcast remote?

Sorry to ramble, if I have left out pertinent details please inform me and I will clarify. If this the wrong forum to post, please move.
Thanks, Kev

Ouch! That's a pain. Unfortunately, it sounds like the remote's a "universal" in that it has no learning capabilities. Translation: If the codes aren't there, you're outta luck. Your best bet would be to spend some money on a learning remote. I'm sure many here will offer lots of suggestions, but I'd suggest starting with the clicker-picker on this site that Dan put together. I have a feeling that you're not looking for a touch screen remote and full automation based on your post (and that's my area of expertise). The others here can offer other suggestions for a remote solution - most likely an MX something or other. Oh - and welcome to the forum. :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I remember a couple of years ago getting interested in the pronto because of this forum and endedup downloading sometype of pronto emulator so that I could practice programming the remote. Now that was fun.

The remote for the Integra is a full learning remote. For me, having everything loaded into the Integra remote is fine. For my SO, all she needs to do is change channel, power on/off, volume control. This system is particulary scaled down from what it used to be. I used to have a RF-IR convertor on the Integra remote so that I could control my X-10 lighting, but as I alluded to earlier, I am looking for ease of use for other users of the setup. So I guess when it is all said done, I probably need to set the system up so she can watch TV without bothering with the receiver which is currently doing my video switching. OR set up some macros on the Integra remote OR get a new learning remote, such a Pronto or Home Theater Master or something where I can label buttons.

The codes for the Integra in the comcast remote, are they 0135, 0842?
