I have a Philips mx3700d dvd player that Has an optical connection that I am trying to hook to my cable box a Motorola dct6208. I have not been able to get any sound at all. Anyone have any ideas?

yes I can help, you have two sources(sources=cable box and dvd player) that have OUTPUTS and no INPUTS, you will need a A/V receiver with two optical digital INPUTS to hear anything (not to mention at least a couple of speakers).

Why are you connecting the dvd to the cable box. The dvd optical should go to your receiver

you guys (lilacroy,mr2channel) are wrong!!! It took me 2 minutes find out that Philips MX3700d is DVD and surr. receiver in one. God ,how I hate these all in one!!! SI-Redleg - you have no digital IN on it - so there is no way hook up your cable boxaudio thru digital. Go and return it as soon as possible and spend couple more $$ for better all in one (if you are in love with it) or better buy real surr.receiver and DVD player - I know it is more $$ but it is worth it!!!!
