I'm currently in the market for a new subwoofer for my HT . I had a Speakercraft bass-x12 but I sold it . The bass-x12 had a good output but was a little too boomy on really intense deep bass . I have a good size room so I'm looking for something with equal or greater output than the bass-x12 but with smoother tighter bass . I've been looking at reviews for subs and keep coming across SVS . Everyone and there mother seems to love these subs . My only hang up is SVS is an internet only company , so I cant demo one of their subs .
Is an SVS sub worth purchasing without a demo?!?
Which SVS would you recommend for high output under $700.
Does SVS have a 15" ?
Appreciate any info .
Thanks in advance

I purchased an SVS 20-39 PC Plus. I just took the risk... and just let me say... I could not be happier. Ron answered all of my questions... the shipping was TOP notch and the thing looks great. My wife and I watched Cat Woman tonight.... she was actually giving me "The Look" during the flush scene. Why? Because the SVS was shaking the whole damn room... violently. It was very cool. I have yet to bottom it out. I paid about $850. I originally though I would need two for my room... but the placement I have in the corner worked perfectly. One works more the adequate!!!

Don't even concern yourself... you will be very happy. Now you just have to decide between a cylinder or box. Good luck!

Yes, I agree. The SVS subs are first class! I currently have a PB12-Plus2 (a 140 lb sonic experience) but have also owned one of their cylinders (also impressive).

Although you cannot give them a test drive prior to purchase, I believe they still have a 30 or 45 day return option (which you'll probably not use!!!).

Ron will respond to any specific questions for your setup requirements and there is also a well written, informative list of FAQ's on their site (a lot of good info on subs in general as well as specifics on the SVS line).

P.S. If you don't have a sound pressure meter you should really consider buying one no matter which sub you buy or from where; it's a sound investment (pun intended).

There is no 15" sub in SV's current line. There is also no need for one. Their 12s are capable of ridiculous amounts of bass. Even their new $400 box with a 10" is insane for the price. Basically, SV's lowest sub is comparable to other subs in the $1500 range, and it goes up from there. They are accurate, powerful, deep...everything a sub should be, plus they are inexpensive.

If you have any worries, ask Ron & Tom about it. They will recommend the best sub for you, even if it isn't their's. Although in that price range, it WILL be an SV. They have a good return policy, so at most you would be out the shipping cost if you didn't like it. The only thing I can see being an issue is the size. SV's are not small. Weigh the dimensions carefully. Oh, and the cylinders are actually 17" diameter, not 16.

I also have a 2039PC+. It is in a very large room and has no problems rattling, compressing and pounding both me and the room all by itself. I can feel it at 60db, and from there it just gets louder and more violent. Haven't bottomed it out yet.

Thanks alot for all your comments . You've been a big help . Sounds like SVS is the way to go . George that PB12-Plus2 looks like a monster , 3 ports in the back to play with and 900 watts to crank up , I'd love to hear it . A little more than I wanted to spend though . I was going to buy a Velodyne DLS5000-R but I'm now considering the PB-12ISD or the PB-12ISD/2 . SO MANY DECISIONS TO MAKE !!
