I need a remote for my HT that I am building. The components rack will be in another room about 20 feet from where I sit with the remote.

I am trying to decide about getting an RF/IR remote and something that will decode the signals in the room with the component rack.

I can install a wall outlet mount for a remote IR sensor that could carry signals to the rack mount components, or would it be simpler to use an RF feature?

Also something that will control the x-10 system.

What would be a powerful, direct remote system? My budget would be in the $300-$500 range.

Thanks

Check out the Home Theater Master MX-700 (and up). The MX-8xx has RF capabilities, but NO universal remote will control an RF device directly (unless it was made by the device's manufacturer). In this case, the RF is used to send a signal to a base station receiver, which then repeats IR commands to the components via flashers or a frontal blaster.

To control X-10, you will need the IR adapter, which converts the IR to X-10 commands.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I have a Home Theater Master MX-700. I have been thinking that an RF version might be better because I could control my rack equipment from other parts of my home without having to install the IR outlet receivers in varoius rooms.

I realize that I would need something to convert the RF signals to IR that the equipment needs. What would I use to do this?

I am researching the MX 850 and MX 1000.
