Even though my Sony receiver's volume remains the same, the volume varies between watching TV, watching a DVD, and listening to music. I am automating and creating macros to turn on and off these devices (making life a little easier, as I am a quadriplegic). I've blown a few eardrums accidentally forgetting to turn the volume back down after listening to a device that requires the volume to be higher for the same volume output.

My question: is there a way to cause the volume to go to "0" and then allow me to consistently up it by a certain amount? Or, is there a way to input volume using numbers?

Thanks for the time!

My guess is that your having a problem with the variable outout of your TV or cable box verses your fixed outputs of everything else. Turn off the speakers of your TV, select fixed output, and everything should be fine. I don't think there is any other way to level the output of your Sony.

the problem is the dynamic range of each device is different. the dvd will require more volume to attain the louder volume because they leave headroom for the loud explosions and other special effects.

-20 may be good on dvd but too loud on tv or vcr.

Check the files section and see if there are any real whiz-bang control codes for the Sony.

They may have something parallel to Yamaha's, where the extended codes give you commands that will set the volume to certain preset levels, and other codes where you can make your own preset levels, and then recall them.

Any Sony gurus out there?

Maybe ask about this in the forum for your exact remote, and also in the general Pronto forum.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thank you all!

Ernie, what is meant by "real whiz-bang control codes"?

Someone told me that there is a device that can be used that controls the volume of each device so that they come out all the same. what and where to get it is another matter.
