I have a leap frog unit (RF transmitter/receiver) set with audio/video transmitted from another room to the TV in the kitchen. The source is a DirectV receiver. I would like to be able to change channels from the kitchen. After reading the manual for the DRD480RE [Link: directv.com]
I noticed that you can hookup an RF antenna.
I know that the main difference between an IR signal and a RF signal is that the IR needs a line of sight to the device. My question is will the addition of that antenna let me do what I want? The remote I am using in the kitchen is about a $50 universal learning remote (I think from Phillips) that I bought about 3 years ago. I'm almost sure that its just an IR remote. Will I need to purchase another remote?
The reason I'm asking if the set up will work is that I cannot find the RF antenna that came with DRD480RE. Any idea where I could get one?
Thanks for any help.

I'm pretty sure that the remote that comes with that direcTV receiver is UHF. If you look at the bottom of the remote and see an FCC ID the tnis is the case. A regular UHF loop like from a pair of rabit ears will work great as the antenna.

You're definitely going to need a true RCA remote, they sold a universal remote awhile back then could control RCA SATs via RF, the model was the RCA D770. You can probably find it on ebay for less than $10.
