We just got our Home Theater M-700 remote a couple of weeks ago - professionally installed (we are not in the same stratosphere as you who programmed it yourselves). We really like it BUT we have a problem and the installer is hard to reach.

The installer said we had to retain and use the remote for the VCR/DVD recorder - my understanding was that the M-700 couldn't be used because the recorder was dual function. Now I can't play back a VCR that I've recorded on. I select Cable Box, then VCR, load the tape in the VCR recorder and turn it on but nothing happens. The tape is advancing but no picture on the TV. I'm not sure if the TV has to be on a specific channel.

We asked for a manual with the M-700 but were told there was none - Sure wish I had something I could refer to.

Appreciate anyhelp I can get.

What brand is your DVD/VCR combo unit? I hate to say it,but, I think somebody dropped the ball (and it wasn't you). Unless it is RF only, wich I have never run across in a combo.

Edmund - Thanks so much - would never have found it. Not sure it's going to tell me why my VCR won't play through it but I'll read it carefully. Thanks again.

What Edmund has refered you to is the programming and user manuals. What's he's implying is that with some studying of the manuals, a cable, the software and a little effort; you can program the 700 yourself.

The cables are available from
www.surfremotecontrol.com (I think)
www.bluedo.com (I know they have them)

The software and manuals are on this remote's mfr website
http://www.hometheatermaster.com/

The software is here:
This page [Link: hometheatermaster.com]
The actually link labeled "Download MX Editor Software For MX-700/MX-200 Sidekick": [Link: universalremote.com]

Yes I think the installer is feeding you a line of BS also. I'm a consumer and can atest that the MX700 can do about ANYTHING! You installer hasn't programmed your 700 correctly. They him we told you so!

Also, it's not a bad idea to learn how to program the 700 yourself. That way when the installer goes out of business, you're self sufficent. Read the manuals and ask questions here. Actually post your questions in the Home Theater Master forum. You'll get more responses there.

Most combo DVD/VCR players are very hard to control since they do not have discretes available. We need a little more info to be able to help you, is the DVD/VCR connected thru a surround sound receiver for its video connection, or direct to the TV? Have you been able at any time, including the installer demo of your system, to be able to view a videotape?

Sounds to me like he didn't program for a video input for the VCR.
Or possibly never hooked up the composite video, but only the component.
As GregC said, did the vcr work during demo?
