Just out of curiosity has anybody actually gotten a Plasma with a broken screen like the one on EBAY above working again ?

It would cost more to replace the glass than to buy a new set.

So you just can't go to the local glass cutter and have a 42 inch diagonal piece of glass cut ? - Not trying to be a smart a__ just curious is all.

I am assuming what is broken is an outside layer of glass and not the surface that the Plasma cells fire onto.

Barlow, forget about this plasma, it's too risky buying it. The problem is not the glass but what the glass had damaged when it broke. Which could very well be pixels from the front of the panels.
Now, it is possible that the only thing broken is the glass, in that case you have to replace it with the original part and nothing else, it's a special formulated glass.

Here is Philips toll free # if you ever need it: 1-800-451-2851 and ask to connect you with national parts which is located in Knoxville tennessee.

Looks like serious trouble. Unless you already had the exact same model and wanted a circuit board or something, don't even bother.

I was not seriously thinking about buying this or any other broken glass Plasma tv. I was just curious what you experts might know considering I see them creeping up on EBAY on a regular basis.

I am sure I am not the only one who was wondering. Of course I have been wrong before.

It would be easier to 'fix' a burned out light bulb. Lets see; melt the glass, replace the filimant, un-melt the glass.....you get the picture.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

I think there must be a lot of accident-prone people carrying heavy, fragile and very expensive televisions, and are still trying to get some money back on what's essentially a hopeless cause! :-)

I see the most anyone's willing to blow on it right now is $1. If I owned a television repair store I'd probably spend that much on it...

Maybe a new technician, didn't think it was all that important to find a stud.

Next week it will be back on Ebay with a new piece of non glare thin poster glass installed. The seller will post it as "Non Working" starting bid $50.00 and "No Remote" and "No Manual". Shipping $30.00 continental US only.

Don, don't forget that adorable little disclaimer: "It was working when removed."

(Well, it was working when it began to fall off the wall.)

No, Daniel, if you owned a television repair store you would know better than to do that.

You'd be buying something unrepairable and then you would have to figure out how to dispose of it.

I owned a repair shop and you couldn't pay me $100 to take it off your hands.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
