Hey guys;

I have a quick question.

Here is the situation. You have component video sources, and you need to send them to two different screens at the same time.

Would you:

A) (example:) Component output from DVD and VoomSTB into the receiver, then use the component output from that into a component video switcher that sends it to both LCD and Projector.

Or

B) Component video outputs from DVD and VoomSTB into a 4x2 switcher that you can select which input it will send to the two outputs?

I don't have near the experience the other guys have, but what are you trying to accomplish? I get that you have a DVD player and a VOOMBox, and two screens. Do you always want the same thing on both screens? Then you have the following options:

1) Run both signals to a receiver
2) Run both signals to a switcher (componant)

Whichever one you use, coming out of that device, you can:

1) Run the signal into a D/A (distribution amp) and then feed the two screens
2) Run the signal to one screen, then loop (if the projector allows) to the other screen.

If you want to be able to watch the DVD on one screen and the VOOM box on the other, you can either:

1) DA the outputs of both boxes (if they don't have multiple outs to begin with), and run those to the screens
2) Find a router (like you suggested) that allows you to route the desired source to the desired screen.

Hey there!

The same signal will be displayed on both the LCD and the projector.

I can either run the component video cable directly to the 4x2 switch and bypass the receiver, or I can run the component video cables to the receiver, and then the output component of the receiver would run into the 4x2 switch (only taking up a single input on it) and it would be shown on both displays.

I guess what I'm asking is if it would be bad to have this extra "stop", if I would lose much video quality because the video would run from Voom->Receiver->Switch->Projector/LCD instead of Voom->Switch->Projector/LCD. The advantage is one less component I have to be able to control (since the switch would always be on the same input), and I get the OSD (on screen diagnostics) of the receiver since I would be using the receiver's video output (Denon AVR-3805S).

Thank you,
Aychamo

Does your LCD or your projector have "loop thru" outputs? The would be labeled "video out"? If one of them does, that's how you feed both screens.

As far as the switching between Voom/DVD, IMHO, I'd just use the Denon. I say that for ease of use (when you switch the video, the audio's switched). Of course, you could set up a macro that would do the same thing if you have a remote control componant switcher. I'm always for the less devices the better.

Depends. Do you already have the receiver that will handle this task? If so it would probably be cheaper to just DA the output to both displays. BUT... they would both show the same image.
If you wanted to have the option of one source on one screen, and the other on the other then the switcher is probably the way to go.
