I bought YAMAHA RX-V1 receiver a few months ago and love it. I recently realized that my left main speaker was producing very low output as compared to the right main speaker. I switched the speakers to make sure that the speakers were not messed up and now my left speaker is working fine but the right one produces very low output. What I mean by low output is that the speaker generates sound but its very low as compared to the other speaker. The authorized repair store is abut 1 hr away from my house. Is there any fix to this problem????

Check the channel-output levels, if they're adjustable. And/or, do a reset if the receiver has that function. It means you will have to reset all of your own settings. If this all fails, then warranty is next.

Wait a minute. You said the low-output problem followed the speaker when you switched them, right? That means it should be the speaker, not the amp.

The speakers are fine. When I changed the speakers, the one that was not working on L speaker started working fine on R speaker. So I know its not the speaker. This is great. 2 months into a Yamaha product and i have a problem. I had a Harman Kardon for 2 years, not a single problem.

I had exactly the same problem - I just traded my RX-V1 for the RX-Z1.
The RX-V1 was know to have a bug - preout bridges were "weak" it is called the "channel drop out bug" you can do a quick fix - take an RCA plug & insert in in & out in all the preout jacks & the channels will all come back - Yamaha knew of this problem for a couple of years. - you can get them (under warantee) to replace the bridges with stronger (better) ones.

Thanks for the info.

But the Yamaha RX-V1 is so old at this point, it is a moot point. These are worthless now and not usable on any modern system, due to the lack of HDMI.
The best that can be done is use them in a 2ch setup and that is a waste of valuable space, considering the size and the power you would get for just 2 channels.

Just threw out a Yamaha RX-Z1 last year, due to it not being really usable in any systems anymore. That was heartbreaking.

It is sadly true that the RX-Z1 is too old to use in a modern HT setup, not having HDMI and relying on optical/RF digital inputs to get multichannel processing. I think the problem (missing right main output) with these is actually in the digital multi-channel board somewhere because using the 6ch input (all discrete inputs) all channels on mine work fully and sound fantastic (also OK, as Brad mentioned, with discrete 2-channel stereo inputs without multi-channel processing). Moreover, these beautiful giant behemoths could be used as 6ch AMP MODE only, perhaps even with a multichannel preamp inputting the discrete 6ch inputs. It only takes one front-panel button to put it in 6ch direct input.

It would break my heart, too, to scrap mine (I have replaced it with a new flagship Yamaha). It is back in the original box in a closet now. ...including the unopened Pronto-style LCD remote. I hope I can find someone who would like to have it.
