Ya know, since this thread started, I've noticed more and more channels with the dreaded logos. Soon it will be at the point where no matter which channel you choose to watch will have some sort of logo, advertising bar, or something of annoyance on the screen.

What I want to know is, who is going to be responsible for repairing or replacing the monitors that have become burned in because of these logos? Can you say class-action lawsuits?

I really think something has to be done soon.

Just my 2 cents.

Yup, hate 'em too.

Has anyone seen a show on CMT called Most wanted live?
They have like 3 or 4 corners of the screen dancing with those damn things and ya can't even watch the program. It's thourghly annoying. I'm almost to the point of not watching broadcast TV anymore, only DVDs.

give us a break....

I scoured the CRTC site with their search engine, and although I found dozens of differing references to advertising, I couldn't find anything specific to a "law" in Canada (that doesn't mean there isn't one; the website has thousands and thousands of rulings and regulatory statements).

What I did find was permissions being granted to a large number of specialty channels over the years, allowing them to increase their advertising from 8 to 10 to 12 minutes per hour. And these are the channels we pay extra for! Now, you know and I know and the whole population knows that we get six to eight minutes of advertising at the top of every hour... so I guess the limit is quite high. Way high. Too, too high. Holy skies, Batman. Way too high. ... Mike

I am a poor 27 year old struggling to support a severe case of A/V addiction, for which I have found no solution. Anyhow, have pawned my soul and am about to purchase a Mitsubishi WS-55819 rear projection monitor. Having pawned my soul, a "burnt in" NBC, or God forbid CNN logo would infuriate me to no end. I appreciate your posting this information. Would a brnt screen be covered under an extended warranty? Also, do the guns on a big screen need cleaning? The A/V store is trying to sell me a 5 year warranty that includes yearly cleaning, and I am curious as to whether or not it is worth it. It cost the same as a progressive scan DVD player...

Thank yo again for your help, and I am excited to find people with whom I can share my addiction.

I wonder if, in the end, the burn-in would matter... because unless they take these things off the channels, the burn-in (if it happened) would be covered by the stations' logos anyway. Ha!

That's a good question though, about extended warranties perhaps covering a burn-in problem.... .... Mike

Hello People.

As I read through these postings , I am again reminded of the fact that we seem to be truly unified in our dislike of this blight that has infected our beloved TV land. None of us seem impressed with the stations use of modern broadcasting techniques but I still do not see a plan of action.

Initially I had hopped that we would have some recourse with our respective governments but that has not proven to be true. We seem to be at the mercy of these licensed advertisement delivery systems, unless your under the age of 12. Our only hope is to get them to see the error of their ways.

In an earlier post, I said it would be like peeing in the wind to send individual emails to the stations and I still believe that is true. Could we however, use email in a more unified approach to express our displeasure in the banner policies. What about a centralized email distribution point. Could we create a list of email address for contacting all the stations (maybe our goverment representatives as well)?

We could then set up a web site where a person could compose a single email and have it mailed to each site with a single send command. Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Anyone see any legal problems with this approach? Do you think it could work? If not, what do you suggest we do instead?

Please do not suggest changing the channel, there are just too many of them using this technique and not enough channels to go around...

Not only do the stupid logos tick me off, but I get even more irate when the text on some programs showing who the guest is, or some other such text, gets cut off at the end by the dang station logo.

Yes, someone please set up a list of places to email. We can't just change the channel.
