I'm looking for a couple of suggestions for a RF remote that is a learning remote. The RF signal would be picked up by an RF reception point (I hesitate to use the word "receiver" in case you confuse it with an A/V receiver or amplifier). The RF reception point is wired to a fixed IR transmitter. The IR transmitter would then send a signal to whatever A/V device that I have.
This would allow A/V components to be setup inside a dark cabinet or in a completely different room yet still allow the remote to control it.
Can anyone give me a headstart on where I can find/build such a remote control system?

You could simply buy one of those damn pyramid thingys that seem to work in some places but not others.
Radio Shack probably sells the RCA brand. X10 has some too.

Go to Crutchfield and search for "IR extender." Some good ideas there, although I'd shop for lower prices before buying from them.
