Hello,
I’m new to the forum and have a pretty basic question.
I just installed a Sony DVD player, receiver and 5:1 surround system. I also just purchased an MX-500 Home Theater Master universal remote.
My question: Is their an inexpensive, IR controlled, 110V power switch I can install for my sub woofer? The sub is the only part of my system that has a manual only switch (which I am constantly forgetting to turn on or off since the rest of the system is now controlled by a macro on my universal remote)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello!,
Welcome to the forum! For your question: Look if you receiver has a switched AC 110 volts socket in the rear of the unit. Generally this sockets are used to turn On/Off another units with low wattage. If your subwoofer has a high power consuption (as almost all) I recommend you use a 110 volts relay to trigger it. To clarify, your receiver will switch On/Off the relay, and the relay will switch On/Off the Subwoofer
Hope it helps you,

....and a company called Niles Audio makes such devices. Voltage controlled outlet is what your looking for. Or you could do a 12 volt trigger from your switched outlet also... Check out www.nilesaudio.com

Also check out the Xantech AC1 @ www.xantech.comIt retails for $120.00 and might be easier to find on the net of locally. Or upgrade your sub. Most are signal sensing.

It's such a fine line between stupid, and clever. |

Monster and Niles both make outlet strips with switchable outlets on them. I have two Bryston Amps that I turn on and of that way. My Denon AVR-3300 does not have a 12V trigger so I plugged a little radio shack 12 volt transformer into the switched AC outlet on the back of the unit and I use that to trigger the Outlet strip.
