I'd like to get a new big (43"+) TV for my home theater, and I'm looking for a stand/organizer to put it on. I need something to hold a few pieces of AV equipment inside/underneath. I've seen some really nice pieces at Diamondcase.com, but the one I like is almost the cost of the TV I'm looking at($1400)! Any others out there that are good quality (not Sauder), but less than $1000?

Also, what's the difference between a tabletop big screen and a floor model? If you lock the wheels on a smaller floor model, can you put it on top of a low cabinet? I've always wanted to have the screen elevated so you weren't looking down at it, or even straight ahead...I want the theater experience. And until I convince the wife that a $10k front projector or DLP system _really_ is practical, I'm stuck with rear projection cabinets.

You don't say where you are from, but in most areas there are local cabinetmaker/furniture makers that would at least give you a bid on a custom solution to your TV stand want. I make furniture, and TV stands are relatively trivial compared to other things I've built. If you have a picture of what you want, and some rough dimensions then show them to a craftsman. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I'll have to agree with David. There aren't many pre-builts that can handle such a large TV. Indeed, I'm having to build a unit just for a 32" set since nothing out there fits just right!
