I plan to relocate my AV equipment and put it in a cabinet in my basement. I plan to run a cable upstairs with the s-video connection to my TV/Monitor.
What would be the maximum aceptable cable run for s2? Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks to the AV Gurus out there.

Hi Ulises
My suggestion would be to use some extremely good cable, Ixos. Monster, Nordost, that kind of thing and possibly an amplifier specially designed for the long run you ask for. Such a device does exist except I can't remember who makes it. I seem to remember it being american.

cheers matt

The piece you are looking for is a tributary S-201
s-enhancer this will allow for runs of s-cable more then 60'.

Jesus... you guys are fast.
Thanks for the information Bryan and Matt.

One more.
If I run a coax cable instead of the s2 to the monitor and use one of those converters to s2 will it work? Will the quality be the same? or how close?

Thanks again.

The quality will be no better than the coax in the first place. The coax is where the loss takes place.

Question: I am running only about a 30 foot length to a projection system (overhead).

Where can I find a cable long enough? (I am not concerned with quality, as this is a corporate presentation system usually hooked up to a computer, and the s-video line is only going to be used for recreational movie watching in the conference room, therefore price is first priority.

Thanks a lot!

Ed, I was able to get a 30' s-video cable at Radio Shack for the same purpose. This was about 7 mos. ago and the price was ~$40. If they don't have the length available they have the cable on a spool and you can buy all components there to custom make a cable. For business presentations (and cost effectiveness) it works great.

I used dual quad RG-6 coax and tribtaries makes a s-video break out connector.
It looks like a Y adaptor, It allows you to pull high quality coax up to 50' for your "S" I have had great luck with it.
