Sean, spend less on your DVD palyer than you have budgeted (DVD Forum) and buy the Denon 5700. It is state of the art and getting great reviews.

Hey Sean, If you don't want to sacrifice your DVD payer than I suggest that you check out the Marantz S8000 or the Marantz SR19. Both are very welll built recievers and are future ready. The Denon 3300 is still very attractive but in this business you still get what you pay for and IMHO if a unit is stocked with everything but the kitchen sink and still costs less or the same as a regular budget receiver than someones taking shorts on parts and workmanship. Check out the build of the Denon3600 and try to pick it up and you'ss see what I'm talking about.

The AVR-3300 is a very fine choice. I know that the AVR-5700 has more watts per channel and a few other frills, but at more then twice the price of the AVR-3300 try buying one at a retail store that offers a 30 day try-out on their products and checkout the differences yourself.

Don't have any experiance with Denon but, I just purchased the Yamaha RX-V995 and am Extreamly happy with it. Has all the features I can think uf and is future expandable as well. Denon does get great reviews but so does the Yamaha. I spent $899 retail for it.

Jason, you are in the right price point (approx. $1000) for Sean's post, but the Denon and Yami are not in the same league. I'm sure that your receiver is a fine choice, but given Sean's collective posts about being willing to spend $1000 on a DVD and $1000 + or - $200 I came up with $2200 to spend on Receiver and DVD. A Denon 5700 can be had for an on-line purchase of $1900 and a "great" DVD can be had for about $300, yeilding $2200.

Result, a "World-class" receiver that is state of the art that will serve for decades, and a throw away DVD palyer which will need to be replaced (due to changing DVD standars) much sooner. Besides, DVD is just like CD - even audiophiles (videophiles in the case of DVD) can NOT tell the difference between players with orders of magnitude difference in price (in a REAL blind test.) - My $.02
