Well it goes like this. I have had 5, yes 5 H/K AVR-65's over the past year. I kept blowing out AMP channesl because my front speakers were rated at 6 ohm's. I know my own mistake. OK, now that I have replaced my speakers with Polk Audio RT-600's and a CS-245 I am having a problem with the surround module. It will intermitantly not play audio when I switch to a surround mode or change channels on the TV after the unit has been on for a while. Turning it off for a few minutes and then back on resolves the issue, however this is not acceptable.

I guess my next course of action to take is to replace the unit with another manufacture. I am looking for advice in this department. Would definately want DTS and possibly THX if it is not too expensive. The ultimate goal is quality and reliablility. Also any opinions on the above mentioned Polk Audio speakers would be welcomed.

Fustrated,
Jason

If you are haveing that many problems then it is time to move on to a new manufacture. The avr-65 is supposed to be a top notch piece. I am now happy that I passed on it for a YAMAHA DSP-AMP1. Not THX, but can run 4 ohm loads with no problem. I currently am running front L,R, & c at 4 ohms. The surrounds are running at 3 ohms. Rock solid performer for the past 7 months.

I have had my AVR-65 for about a month now and have not had any problems.

I am very happy with it. Hope I don't start experiencing problems....

Well this is how the story ends. I replaced it with a Yamaha RX-V995. After hooking it up and listening to it and using it for a few hours I think it was definately the right choice. It has 4 optical inputs vs. the 1 that H/K gave me and it lists for $100 less. I also checked out http://www.audioreview.com and there were several reports on the AVR-65 doing the same thing I was experiencing. Well I guess I live and learn. Reasarch first, not after.
