Just got one of these and having a wonderful time.
anyone else have one. if so I like to know if you know how to tweek the default convergence "Magic Focus" as I understand it:

by pressing a combination of buttons on the remote you can put the set in a "Tech" mode and get a crosshatch screen and are then able to "tweek" the convergence at many different sections of the screen. I also would like a cff file.

Bob i have just purchased the 53"sdx. Great tv. Would have got the 60" but wouldnot fit into my basement, to bad for me.You are correct that the remote does adjust the convergence, but I would try to get the shop manual from hitachi first. John it is hd upgradable with a set top box.

`HiJohn & Roger,

Ya, john, as Roger pointed out the Hitachi SDX series are HD ready with progresive scan or line dubbler if you will. I had a 50" Mit. which I lost in a divorce.. It doesn't compare to the new stuff. I dont care what brand it may be if it doesnt have progressive scan, you have to sit a half mile from it before the lines merge together.
I'm sitting about 12 feet from it and it looks like the image is projected. I subscribed to direct tv and ussb two days after they put the box on the market. I'm still using the orig RCA converter box. I also have Webtv which is another of my favorite toys. (what else is there after 25 years of marriage, but to buy toys) Sooner or later Directtv will find some HD programing and the "promised" converter boxes and dish will be on the market.I'll one of the first in line.. If you, John, have some info on calibration let me and Roger know....

Bob if you hold the magic focus button for three sec. it will go into service mode. You will then see the center cross hair, which can be tweeked by the cursor. That is as far as I have gone.To return to regular tv mode press and hold magic focus button from 2-3 sec.

Bob,
BE VERY VERY CAREFUL!!! Messin with the service menu of a TV set will more that likely screw up your TV and void it's warranty!!. Have a certified ISF (Imaging Science and Foundation) dealer go to your house and have him calibrate your tv for you.. he'll do convergence for you, plus among a whole host of tweaks!! What you are looking at now is only 30% of what that tv's capable of doing.. calibrating it yourself will give you at most 70%, but the ISF fella will make you look like you are looking through a window instead of a plastic screen!! Email me for details!!

John
