3FG just wanted to say thanks for your help on this thread. After hours of searching I have finally gotten must of the remote functions to work. And to make sure I'm correct, the select/ enter and all arrow keys are not programmable using the unmodified comcast remote? I am unable to change surround sound to pro logic or adjust any individual speaker volume without these.

What model number Sony do you have?

So far as we know, the arrow and enter buttons can't be sent by the Comcast remote.

I just purchased a Sony DVD Home Theatre System, model DAV-DZ170. I have been trying to program that device as the AUX on my Comcast "Custom DVR 3 Device" remote control. Just power on and off, and volume up and down, is all that I really need. My remote is grey, with the red "OK/Select" button. Please, please, please tell me that there is a chance that this can be programmed. Thanks.

I haven't been on for a while, it took some time to get my JP1.3 cable. I've got the Sony STR-DH810 and the Comcast Red OK button remote. I've downloaded IR.exe and Remote Master as well as RMIR and can't get any of those to work. I remember you said I needed to use the JP1 cable to do an upgrade to my remote but I'm not seeing any for that receiver and every time I try to open RM or IR.exe they're asking me where I store the RM files, which I don't have. Any help is appreciated 3FG, thanks.

My guess is that the programs are asking where RDF files are stored, and where image files are stored. All of the programs will start without a RM file, and IR has no use at all for one. Make sure to follow the instructions 3 and 4.

I'd start with this rmdu file.  Customize it using the Sony page to add additional functions.  Use the BD function as an example-- you can see it on the Sony page--16.40, command 22.  Look on line 50 of the RMDU file, and notice the 16, 40,  22(in the OBC column).  You can add HDMI inputs in the same way.

I think I'm doing all that, but it's not seeming to work. I had actually already downloaded that RMDU file last night and now I've brought that up. I added a new row under Functions that has the HDMI 1 code I think. I did the Sony20 Protocol and used 16, 40, 16 which is on the Sony page. But when I save that to my remote profile in RMIR and upload it to my remote it doesn't do anything when I push that button. It also had the DM Port function preloaded on the RMDU and my receiver has a DM Port so I've tried pushing that button and it doesn't work for that either.

Let's take this discussion to [Link: hifi-remote.com].  There are lots of people there who may help, and more importantly, you can upload your RMIR file so that we can look at it and see why it isn't working.

I took a quick look, and dmport is assigned to the Ch+ button. On the General tab, did you set Audio Channel device to Audio? If you didn't then the remote will send IR signals for your cable device--you can see that becasue the CBL LEd would flash instead of the Audio LED.

Well, I reassigned the DM Port button to "6" and the remote still did the Video 2 function that I had previously used the EFC to map to "6". I also thought there was some upgrade or something I needed to do since the Red OK button remote wouldn't do the HDMI EFCs.

I think Sony classifies the SAVA line as Active Speakers, so they use a different device number (Sony 15, device 255) than other Home Theater systems.

Assign 31758 to AUX. Then test the following EFCs to see if your system responds.

Vol+ 32826
Vol - 31802
Mute 33594
Power toggle 32570

Here's how to test. With setup code 31758 assigned to AUX, tap AUX. Then, tap Setup (don't hold it) and enter the 5 digit EFC. When you enter the 5th digit, hold it and the remote will send the IR signal.

For example to test Vol +, tap Setup, Enter 32826. When you enter the 6, the remote will send Sony 15, device 255, function code 18.

If the tests work, you can semi-permanently assign these EFCs to buttons:
Tap AUX
1) Press Setup until 2 blinks
2) Enter 994 (two blinks)
3) Tap Setup
4) Enter the 5 digit EFC (e.g. 31802)
5) Tap the button to assign to (e.g. Vol-)
The remote should blink twice to indicate the entry was succesful.

The IR signals for a total of 48 functions (most of which are probably implemented in your speakers) are known. If the above codes work, I'll post the others.

Hi, I'm sorry to extend the thread so much later, but I have a very similar problem, but with Charter cable. Same Sony model and everything. Would it work the same way? I've lost the stock remote, and was wondering if I could use either, another sony remote I have for a receiver unit (Sony RM-AAU055) or my Charter remote. I'm not exactly sure how those EFC keys work, as I see nothing like that on my charter remote. Any help would be appreciated.
