Allowing local stations (CTV) to continue simsub is a way to cover the cost of local programming. If this isn't enough, don't be surprised if the big 4 (CTV, CBC, Global, CITY/OMNI) cut jobs and reduce the number of local stations. The change to the simsub rules only applies to the SuperBowl and speciality channels like TSN. If CTV/TSN can't sub commercials after 2016, what Canadian broadcaster would pay $15 million U.S. per year for the rights. BECAREFUL OF WHAT YOU WISH FOR. Next year an additional NFL playoff game moves to ESPN stateside; eventually up here 'NFL ON CTV' will become 'NFL ON PPV' (pay-per-view).
