Just incase you haven't caught this one, Sun TV plans to add OTA transmitters in Ottawa and London among other changes coming this fall. They claim that then they'll cover 83% of Ontario's population. Good news for OTA enthusiasts outside of the GTA.
Among other changes they indicate "5.0 sound", which I can only presume to mean 5.1, and a couple of new similcasts from US networks.

Here is the link: [Link: torontosun.com]

Hmm. About the only show of interest there for me is Smallville, and I had that on City before. But it's really nice to see them putting money into OTA.

Agreed. It's a step in the right direction. Then who knows, maybe next time around they'll add some serious content. But then again, from time to time I've found myself watching Scrubs on Sun.

Great idea for Sun. These guys actually recognise the importance of providing as wide an audience as possible for their advertisers. That Gareth guy sounds like he has a permanent cold drives me crazy. These guys are far more into this TV thing than those Toronto One people ever were! Great work Sun keep it up. Many viewers are happy to watch you OTA!!!!!!!

Updating this obsolete thread:

Friday the 13th may be unlucky for Sun News Network.

Always seemed odd to me... how they purposefully shut down their OTA broadcast, and yet afterwards complained incessantly about how unfair it was that they couldn't get all the distribution privileges of having an OTA broadcast, like all the other stations with OTA broadcasts. WELL DUH!

And look what happened. Wonder if they still consider that move a wise and reasoned one?

Quebecor was instructed to relinquish their O-T-A licence by the CRTC because Sun News Network was considered a specialty channel.  Because the CRTC refused mandatory (category C) coverage with an $0.18 per subscriber fee, SNN was only available in about 40 percent of the country.  You could argue either way on whether the free market place worked in this case.  Quebecor could have negotiated a lower carriage fee which would have increased its presence, the subscription fee was their primary source of revenue as apposed to advertising because SNN was expected to be viewed 24/7 by the same viewer.  On the other hand, I'm not a fan of the KGB government determining what channel airs where and by how much.
