Hi everyone.
I'm new here, my name is Mike from Hamilton, Ontario

A buddy sent me here because he knows I use to have Direc TV.

Is there a 'fix' for it?
Where could I get one?

I know this is my first post, but I miss my DTV since it went down!
LOL!

Any help would be appreciated.
I just got a Sony 55" Grand Wega, and was thrilled to find I have some HD channels. - Bought an antenna and got a few more.

I'll see if I can get more info on what I have and what channels for you all.

Clarity, please.

Used to have it? Did the dog eat it?

Fix for what? Did the dog not eat it, but chew on it mightily?
You get them from DirecTV.

Ah, I just noticed, Ontario!

I think DirecTV is licensed only for use in the United States. You need to reside in the states, order one, get it installed and turned on, then move out and smuggle it into Canada. I know you wouldn't think this is smuggling, but if you would hesitate to declare it at the border, you are probably smuggling. After all, downloading songs isn't really stealing, right?

If you ever connected it to a phone line, DirecTV would likely shut it off. If you ever have any problem with the receiver, you will have to deal with DirecTV from a US address.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Sorry, I had assumed this was a Canadian based board.

I should of been more clear.

If DirecTV was available to me, I would gladly pay for it in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately when I tried, I was told that they aren't allowed to give access to Canada.

So, I was looking for a 'fix' as it were..... a new 'script'.... testing. Whatever you call it. I just prefer U.S. television to CND television.

This may be the wrong board for this stuff - if it is, I apoligize.

I'm just looking for a way to have DirecTV again - Period.

It's international, and I think it is indeed based in Canada, so you got most of that right. The issue is not that you are in Canada, it is that you are asking how to get programming in a country in which a person cannot be licensed to get that programming.

Yeah, indeed, the problem.

What I don't understand is how putting words in quotation marks will change them -- you want US-licensed programming in Canada. It will take doing what I already outlined, or an understanding friend in the States, plus smuggling a receiver into and out of Canada any time any kind of update might be needed. Don't even THINK about TiVo with its daily need to call home.

This may be the wrong board for this stuff - if

I don't think it is the wrong board. You are just stuck with advertisers and stations not agreeing that you can have the programs. A pity and sort of dumb, actually.

I wish you luck.

Your reference to a "fix", "script", or "testing" as in a test card, make me believe what you are looking for is a way to hack the security scheme.

DirecTV has done a nice job of closing the loopholes in the HU cards. The hackers are still trying to use power analysis techniques to break the cards, and having very limited success.

If you hold your breath for this solution, you'll just end up turning blue, and pass out.

This is definitely the wrong place to look for a way to pirate DirecTV!

I hear this all the time, but I have three D-TiVo's that haven't been plugged into a phone jack for a couple of years or more, and they're still functional. (We never use PPV)

If you are close to the US, you should be able to see the satellites. If you had switched to paperless internet billing, you could have simply brought your equipment with you, reaimed for the new location, and carried on as normal. I don't know if it would be possible to get set up from your new home, though.

There's a whole bunch of people in the US who prefer the Canadian sat service, though. Is it that bad?

Well, I personally don't like my TV being altered.

Plus, we get our feeds from the U.S. anyway - the CND broadcasters tend to 'cut off' the end of a show when they do a switch over.

Not to mention wrestling. I watch RAW, and ANY time a woman is hit (it IS wrestling ya know?!), they show old crowd footage up here so we don't see violence towards woman - but Tony Soprano can slap the hell out of a woman with no problem?

I'd just prefer the U.S. TV over the CND shows.
