Hi. I recently purchased a Panasonic DS-TU50 HDTV Tuner/Decoder. The unit did not come with a remote, and I am looking at my options in getting a remote that will work with the unit. This model is a very early HDTV Set Top Box model. I was told that perhaps the remote for the 51's might work with it, and it was a more widely produced model.
Thanks for the help.

Finding stuff like this is boring, but usually not too hard. You have to be ready to hit a lot of dead ends, but you will find it. Here is how I would proceed, in the order that the ideas came to me. I would probably do the first one after searching ebay, though.

I would go to www.panasonic.com and do what they offer as choices to get to a United States site, perhaps consumer, probably the category will be entertainment, and then look for Parts Sales. They should have remotes there, will have the right one, and they will surely know the prices.

Once you get the model number of the remote (be sure to ask), you can then search the internet for that remote from other sources. You also might be able to find the remote model number by searching the internet for a manual on the receiver. Either way you go, it is not that difficult. I find it pretty much takes assuming that the information can be gotten from someone who actually has the remote or knows where to get it, and then searching and asking questions until you have one.

Try searching for your model number on ebay.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

We guess you will need to tell us what ALL the numbers on the box are!

Is this HDTV only, or does it also have satellite?

Could the model number be the reason you haven't been able to find a remote for it?

or maybe not -- here is a "for sale" notice from craigslist on Oct 31, 2005 -- at [Link: atlanta.craigslist.org]

"This listing includes both the Panasonic DS-TU50 HDTV Tuner/Decoder and the matching Panasonic PV-HD1000 HDTV D-VHS VCR. Together these units allow you to watch, record and archive HDTV TV shows. Originally this set up sold for over $2000."

Did you purchase this one, and it came without the remote? That would really make it a small world, wouldn'd it?

Either way, God bless google's little pointy ears.

Actually, I did buy it from that craigslist user. He had an extra Panasonic HD Box, and I purchased it from him. Alas, it did not have the remote...Won't have the unit until Monday, so i'm trying to do my homework and see if I can find a remote in advance. I think Im gonna have to wait until I can pull all of the model numbers off of the unit itself...Thats ittttttt.

You are looking for the VSQS1578 remote.

You can get the manual by going to Panasonic.com, consumer, product support, then entering the number of the other half of the set, PVHD1000 !

Or go directly to [Link: service.us.panasonic.com]. The remote is illustrated on page 4.

...or maybe that remote only works the VCR. I haven't read that far in the manual, but you have a starting place!

I just looked over the whole manual. It doesn't mention the tuner AT ALL. Back where you started. Sorry.

Well, I found that i will need the EUR511154 remote from Panasonic for my receiver. The only problem being that it costs upwards of 60 bucks...Any cheaper solutions?
