I have charter cable. I have a line for cable and a satellite dish with it's own cable. What do I need to split these to 2 different rooms? Is this possible without getting other boxes from the cable company? Thank you for all input and please make anwsers simple. Woman here...lol. Thanks again!

You can split the cable signal. You must place the slpitter in line BEFORE it connects to the cablebox input. One port of the splitters out goes to the cablebox, the other goes to the second room. The second room will now only have the analog channels, but it will have something.

You can't split the satellite signal, but you can split the satellite's output signal. You will only be able to watch the same channel as in room1, but you will get something.

That first half is correct. I don't quite get the second half, so let me pretend I understand it and expand on it.

I think avslave means that you can't take the signal coming from the satellite DISH and split it (correct), but the satellite RECEIVER's output can go to more than one TV. If you are using the audio and video output jacks to go to the TV near the satellite receiver, you can also run a cable (yes, run a cable) from the satellite receiver's Channel 3/4 output to a TV in another room, and then in that room you can watch whatever is on the satellite receiver. I do this for a bedroom TV, with one added thing, a Xantech Xtra Link, a little kit that allows me to use the satellite remote in the bedroom and control the satellite receiver in the living room. Since I am generally, as far as I am aware, only in one of those rooms at a time, there is no conflict.

To have a second satellite receiver that can tune its own channels, you will need another cable coming in from the dish, going to that second receiver.

You didn't mention who your satellite provider is. If you have Dish, you can order a dual tuner reciever, 322, 522, etc.. and you can watch two different channels on two different tv's at one time from the dish reciever. The bonus is with this setup (as long as you have a land based phone line connected to it) your monthly bill is the same as with a single tuner. Oh, and you will need to run another cable from the dish to the reciever, as well.

Ah. It's the old bugaboo of the new member: not knowing how much information to provide to get a clear answer, and not wanting to write and write and write and perhaps look totally ignorant or paranoid for going on and on and on.

Hi
we have a camping/ portable satellite dish and receiver.
Can we split the signal so that I can watch something different in another room?
The set was only £60 so not expensive and I was thinking it was probably easier to have a second complete set rather than just a receiver box.
Does anyone have any cheaper ideas or am I correct in my assumption?
Ta all

Alas you can't split satellite like you can split a standard TV antenna. The LNB(s) on your dish have to have dual outputs if you're going to use multiple receivers.

I just notice the cost in pounds, and the email address in the UK. Is satellite set up the same way there?

Good point... but judging by how the FTA standard works, I'd say yes.
