Does anyone know when D will be rolling out their products/services for local HD channels via Sat?

5 LNB's.... OH MY GOD!
1. How many cables do we need from the dish to the multiswitch now?
2. Even worse, how many cables from the multiswitch to the TV for a HD signal?
I thought it was a pain having two cables from multiswitch to TV for HD, I can only imagine what mess they've left me with now...
I'm waiting in painful anticipation to answers for the above questions!

Well, for everyone but Matt, it's still 4 cables from dish to multiswitch right now. I think the new dish will be the same. Anyone actually seen one, yet?
It will be the same for cables from ms to TV as it is now. The only question will be the HMC, if it ever comes out. But that won't be for another year most likely, anyway.

The new set up is not compatible with the Spaun multiswitch, and probably all the current switches. So that means lots of multiswitch replacements, or service calls to fix what Sat installer just f@#$d up. MPEG 4 looks pretty nice though.
Had a chat with Spaun at Cedia, they didn't sound too happy either, Direct seems that they want to keep a lid on this for a while.

Detroit is the beta testing grounds. Chicago will be in the first 11 cities right after that. I thought Detroit was already testing, but maybe not til next month. The first 12 should all be starting in November, but "start" vs "you get yours" doesn't have to happen in the same month. Or year, for that matter.
HMC means Home Media Center. There has been much discussion of a central processing box for DVR users. This would presumably be a more expensive system, but would give DVR networking to any TV in your house. Or at least every TV you set up this way. So far, it's really just vaporware/rumor, so I wouldn't worry too much about it this year. I only mentioned it because of the cabling question by bcf1963.
Nobody knows much. Certainly very little concrete data.
