In terms of actual new stations, I did a scan a few nights ago and nothing has changed.

The CRTC has some weird regulations on what off-the-air channels they're allowed to broadcast over cable - I think it's no station started after 1985. Even if you can get it by antenna in the area. I believe a special exemption had to be obtained for The WB.

Do you need to subscribe to the Roger service to get these unencrypted channels? If so, does it have to be a digital service?

No, you just need to have analog cable to recieve these stations... They are unencrypted digital stations which basically means they are free to air...

Basically, these are the channels you'd get if you rented a digital cable box but did NOT pay for any of the specialty channels.

With your reciever, are you able to pull in ATSC OTA HDTV, NTSC OTA ANALOG, and QAM from Rogers all at once, or do you have to rotate this?

It's automatic switching. Basically when just channel upping, it's possible to have 2 Cable, 2 Antenna, 2-1 HDTV, all in a row. :-)

Daniel,
Is it possible that the HDTV signals that Rogers broadcasts are in a different type of QAM or format completly that your reciever is unable to see? If so, any idea what this format is? I ask, because I was looking at the Rogers site and it says that upon getting a HDTV box, you get numerous HDTV channels for free, and then you can pay an additional $5 a month to get West feeds and TSN HD. Hence, something like Sportsnet HD, I would think, would be in the clear...

Rogers encrypts them. So you need authorization to receive them (ie. pay them money). In the US, local HDTV networks are almost always unencrypted since it's your "right" to receive them if you pay for the SD versions. Not so with Rogers.
Now if Rogers supported Cable Cards (they do not) *and* I paid for the HDTV package then yes, the box could receive them.
