Now that I have several QAM enabled tuners, I figured I'd start a list of unscrambled digital cable channels available on Rogers in the Ontario area (possibly specific to the Scarborough / Richmond Hill / Markham cable system). Although these are Cable Card-ready tuners, Rogers does not yet support this option, this is everything that's available freely via a standalone tuner.

To make this list easier for me to update I have created a new Rogers Digital Cable Free QAM Channel List page.

Note that the most recent changes to this list will be itemized in postings to this thread (so keep reading). Questions and comments should also be directed here.

List updated October 3, 2011.

What Cable Card-ready tuner did you use for this test?

Thanx

Sony DHG-HDD500. It's an OTA & Cable Card HDTV DVR.

With that card, how were you able to get some of those sub channels such as 124.1532. Does the software for the card allow you to input any channel like that? Did you just do a channel scan? What were the steps? Thanx

You sure it was Sportsnet News and not Sportsnet Pacific?

This isn't a card, it's a set top box. It supports a Cable Card, which would allow me to receive pay stations, such as all those specialty channels and the movie networks, but Rogers doesn't offer them yet.

These were obtained just by running an auto scan, and they dial in just like HDTV channels.

I've updated the list - yes, that really is Sportsnet Pacific; I've clarified the unknown channels, and Food Network seems to be there now.

If that Sony STB worked, would something like a Fusion HDTVx PCI card work since it does QAM? I'm thinking to put in my htpc.

Sorry, I don't know if any QAM tuner will do it, since this is the only one I have. :-)

The only product similar to the Sony (an off-air HDTV DVR) is the LG LST-3410A. No others have even been announced.

Edit: I just ran a scan, the only change is the addition of Real Estate TV.

So with that reciever, and I ask a lot mostly because I am very interested in picking up this sucker now, what does it show for these stations? Like are they just blank stations with no EPG information and no SID? Can you manually enter SID so you can say it is RSN Pacific or reTV, or do you have to keep a list by the TV to see if you can pull in the stations...

Also, any interesting things with ROD?

Nope, no way to custom label them... and no guide information or program information either. This might get better if/when Rogers starts supporting Cable Cards (a plug-in card that allows reception of paid channels). And so far I haven't been able to find a TVGOS data provider in the Toronto area for Canadian stations. Otherwise a graphical remote like the Pronto with a TV surfing section would be a good solution to identifying what is what.

Nothing much interesting with ROD, but it seems you can watch any existing ROD session in your area. Problem is the channels will only scan in if something is already playing, and you have no control over the programming (ie. if someone else pauses it).

Ok, another question about this unit, Can you pull in NTSC OTA, NTSC Cable and ASTC OTA all at the same time?
