I'll have to disagree, several Canadian Channels have implemented PSIP to map and mimick their analog channels:

CBLT UHF20 - PSIP 5-1
CBLFT UHF24 - PSIP 25-1
CITY UHF53 - PSIP 57-1
CFTO UHF40 - PSIP 9-1 (Though this seems to change regularly !!)

The OMNIs were mapped for a few days too, but last time I checked a few days ago they were using their actual channel numbers.

In fact I think SunTV is the only (Canadian)one that has never mapped. I think WNED is the only Buffalo area channel (that I can recieve anyway) that has never mapped to it's analog equivelent - though PBS HD is really a different channel from the usual PBS on analog 17, I guess they could put their HD on 17-2 and their SD feed on 17-1. awe heck, that's even more confusing !

Provided the channels come in reliably, I'm happy to let the tuner do it's thing, so long as it works :-)

At least we know they're gone. With CFTO, they're 40 one minute and 9 the next. Yesterday afternoon, no signal on either and then, last night, bright and cheery as ever. How long will it take them to work out their issues?

oh. i don't even use the remapping stuff that they send with OTA.

I just use the original channel number they actually broadcast on. That way i don't have problems with PSIP data and remapping etc...

Time Warner & QAM

I emailed TW about the 'free hd' they now have on their channel lineup and they really don't have much of a clue about QAM - see below:

definition. The only channels that are in high definition are in the 700
level and they are encrypted. You would need a high definition box to

QAM is the technology that is used by digital cable. Many HDTV sets have
QAM tuners in them (in addition to the ATSC/NTSC) and can display the HD
signals on the cable line.


On QAM a station can be encrypted or open. Currently you have the HD
locals as open along with TBS and the music stations. So can the Free HD
stations be switched to un-encrypted?


I know this gets technical so can you bounce this to the appropriate
person.

where can we get the information about omni1 and 2? Which channel are they in right now?

They are in the testing stage and at the moment are not broadcasting a signal

Thanks for the info, it's quite handy. I'm wondering what people are using for antennaes? I have a Terk TV35 mounted on my garage roof, and I can get CBC, CITY, WNED and WNLO. I would love to be able to get the 4 US networks (I am about 90 miles from the Buffalo transmitters) if I have to get a bigger antennae that wouldn't be a big deal.

You never indicated where you are located - I am in Markham north side of Toronto
Using a ChannelMaster 4221 and recieve all stations listed on the Toronto HDTV list,
My friend has a 4228 which even provides better gain ... The down side is these are just
UHF antenna's

A quirk of the design of the 4228 is that although it is sold as a UHF antenna, it will also work well for VHF-HI (7-13).

WNYO is up, with static only for sound on the HD channel. And it seems they are transmiting the same signal as the asian test signal we all got earlier in the fall. I am finding the signal is identical to the 0.65kW transmitter from last year.

perhaps this is what they are doing.

WNYO might be up, and My receiver is telling Me that it is there but it is too weak to view. Living 25 miles from Grand Island is a little to far. I'am on the south shore of lake Ontario and can receive most of the Toronto stations on the CN tower, but not 53-1/57-1 Citytv. Is there any plans for them to turn up the power in the future.

WNYO, yes. They're going up to 175 kw with a directional transmitter (towards the south) on Grand Island. However, right now they seem to be transmitting from their old transmitter in Cowlesville at 0.65 kw.

That's the reason why it is so weak, at 175 kw I should be able to receive WNYO with My equipment.

WNYO cannot be transmitting from Cowlesville - they moved a while ago now. They broadcast now from GI. I was never able to receive WNYO from Cowlesville- I am getting it now though. Is the sound on 49-1 still messed up?
