Just a note to begin that there is no such thing as an "HD" antenna; every TV antenna is capable of receiving HD. Don't be fooled by manufacturers latching on the HD concept and adding "HD" to all their model names... when the designs probably haven't changed in 30 years! :-)

With that said, you need an antenna system appropriate to your location and what you're trying to receive.

So: what city are you in, what type of home are you in (condo, house, etc.), and what would you like to pick up?

The only downside is that it'll be moving back to the old transmitter site.

This will provide better coverage in their target areas around Buffalo and east.

Daniel,

Old transmitter site, yes. But if its the same transmitter that they use from that site right now, then HELL YA because it has a contour that reaches well into the North. I can pull WNYO in analogue without problem so if its the same site broadcasting with the same contour, I am a happy camper...

Check out radioworld.ca
Their prices are a little strong in my opinion.
Case in point, the Channelmaster 9521A can be had for 70$USD (78$USD) whereas Radioworld has it on for 140$Cdn.

Meh, I get Grand Island fantastically... 49 analog has always required very precise aiming for me.

I'm amazed... once again CTV is only showing So You Think You Can Dance in widescreen SD. This is the third year running (at least).

I feel for cable viewers as the HD Fox feed is replaced with the SD CTV feed (oh, wait, the CTV logo is in HD...)

Has anyone read or heard about CTV and Global considering pulling their signals off BDU's and also blacking out the same US TV shows they have the rights to broadcast in Canada on the US TV stations?

This season F1 coverage is being blacked out on Speed TV here in Canada at least on Bell TV (TSN has the canadian rights) and I would assume on other paid tv services as well , so this is not new but who knows what will happen at the end with the OTA broadcasters eh?.

You can see why many Canadian broadcasters hate OTA. They want to move to a "pay to view" model as if they were a speciality cable channel.

They could indeed actually re-new their license as a specialty service only but they do not want that neither as that implies that they loose their current privileges such as , low number location on cable, the right to simsubing, forced to be carried on local cable markets, they also loose their OTA frecuencies and maybe a few more benefits.

They are just playing another powerful card they have now with the new life OTA digital TV has brought to the table. They are just in other words capitalizing on the oportunity , but heck this is a capitalist society not a socialist one , so why blame them eh?, lol.

If they move to specialty service they will actually probably loose money as big Ads money is in the weekly primetime slot for the major US shows and remember they will also loose the exclusive rights with those US shows probably too.

As I posted on the Bell TV technical forum it will be fun to see how this palys out in the end and for me at least the role the "regulator" plays in this case.

But they want their cake AND to eat it, too. They'll probably try to come up with a new service type, "Specialty National Network" and define that has having all the features of a regular "local content" off-air channel, plus all the features of a specialty cable channel.

And knowing the CRTC...

But I don't think they really care about traditional broadcasting. The executives would be more than happy to lose it entirely if they could get everything they have now while only having to provide a feed to satellite and cable companies.

At 9:AM today WGRZ Weather Plus changed to NBC Universal sports. Instead of my local forecast I got Ping Pong.

I think I'd rather watch Pingu than Ping Pong.

OK, hd....you lost me on terminology...though I've been away for awhile.....BDU?
To me BDU means either Battle Dress Uniform or Basic Daily Uniform......what does it mean here?
Now seeing that I don't get Global/CIII digital and CTV-DT is hit or miss I've been long resigned to losing the analogue
stations in 2011 anyhow but no big deal...I get the bulk of my entertainment from Buffalo regardless.
My parents had a saying...."cutting off your nose to spite your face" I think it pertains well to the CDN private broadcasters
and all the more reason why we need the CBC!

BDU stands for Broadcasting Distribution Undertaking and it encompasses (I hope I spelled the world properly , lol) every cable, satellite or any other means TV provider. Since the acronym includes everyone who distributes TV signals it is easier for me to refer to cable and satellite operators as such. If I want or need to refer to either service or means of distribution like cable, satellite or any other like wireless microwave links I would refer to them as such , in this case it included everyone that is why BDU is better to refer to them.

also BDU could stand for in some other cases:

Battle Dress Uniform
BDU Business Development Unit (Staffordshire University, UK)
BDU Bharathidasan University (India)
BDU Bone Dry Unit (energy science)
BDU Broadcast Distribution Undertaking
BDU Bomb, Dummy Unit
BDU Befehlshaber Der U-Boote (commander-in-chief of the German submarines in WW-II)
BDU Brain Dead User
BDU Battle Dress Utility
BDU Below-Deck Unit
BDU Bomb Disposal Unit
BDU Bardufoss Airport, Norway (Airport code)
BDU Battery Display Unit
BDU Basic Display Unit
BDU Big Dumb User
BDU Business Dial Up
BDU Blood Donor Unit
BDU Bus Data Unit
BDU Buffy Downunder (website)
BDU Bomb Dispenser Unit
BDU Barking Dogs United (artist duo)
BDU Bundesverbandes Deutscher Unternehmensberater eV
