CHCH broadcast the news at noon then went off the air.
CIII broadcast until 2:30 P.M. then also went off the air.
Both stations must still be in a test phase but it is good to see that they have at least begun actual programming transmission and not just a test pattern.
Maybe they will be on air by their "live by" dates.

Is anyone getting the Erie PA channels from the GTA? I get low, but consistent, signal on 3 channels but no raster.

DaMeatMan, interesting post about home made antenna. Most
of store bought ones are giving me dropouts no matter
what i try and unstable signal so i shall try it.

DJG,

After i finished this project i also came across some nice detailed schematics in PDF format with actual dimensions for use in this project. Oringaly created and posted by Regisma from [Link: lumenlab.com] and can be downloaded directly via this link [Link: lumenlab.com]

Great news about CIII!

Got CIII this afternoon here in Albion, NY, even though the antenna is 5 feet lower than it used to be, as we bent the polewhile trying to get it back up, and had to saw off some. 91xg is a great antenna, but flimsy, so I tightened and glued everything on it, hoping to never have to take it down again. CIII was bouncing around, being 65 one minute, 41 the next, and went back to a test pattern with no sound late this afternoon. I keep looking for Hamilton 18, but the strength of Peterborough's 18 here may make it an impossibility.

DaMeatMan, thank you for all of your info.My only problem remains the same: i'm not sure that i will be able to get direct signal.Everything is placed on a balcony which has open front but covered top. It's just second floor and moving it outside isn't in my power.
My house is sort of low compared to highrises at the front, which faces Buffalo, and CN Tower is at the back where even closer buildings are.Seems that all i will get is off/in between buildings and that can't be stable all the time.
Seems that you have quite clear view and antenna isn't main factor.

I'm completely incapable of receiving Hamilton (my line of sight takes me directly through downtown TO which seems to mess everything up) so I'll need you guys to report on exactly what CHCH is doing. :-)

I got Global today afternoon, but they still don't seem to be broadcasting the PSID, also for the first time I got CTS (also no PSID). This is using HDHR with MythTV.
Right now at 8PM global is broadcasting a test pattern. I'm in North York.

8:15 am, GLOBAL 41.1 (65.1 also seems to work) broadcasting content (we can only hope they're not just testing). My signal strength is 85%. It's upconverted SD in 4:3. I guess HD stuff will probably be tonight with their American content.
Does anyone know if they are outputting 720p or 1080i?

Nothing on CHCH/E! 18.1

Nothing on OMNI 44.1+64.1 (if those are the right channels)
Located in the High Park area of Toronto, north facing view.

I checked CIII this morning at 9:00am and was broadcasting live content on 41-1. Hope it's still up and running by the time i get home, today seems to be the day they go live from what i hear, my TV detects broadcast content as 1080i at 99% signal although it was up converted SD content while i was watching.

It's 13:30 (1PM) on Friday and i'm receiving 60% on CHCH in Mississauga. No PID's specified in a stream.Means that they're testing without any video/audio.Signal power is beyond low.

Update:

Ok, I did a scan at 2:30 PM and receiving channel 18.1 (66%) as well 41-1 (59%) both are up and broadcasting video and audio. Total digital channels received (Mississauga) with full video and audio 23. (SD, HD)

While I was at an electronic store the manager asked me about a couple of other stations:

… Does anyone know why channel 7-3 (which is a great sport channel) the video broadcast is not clear like other SD 480i channels.

… Channel 26-1 also broadcasting SD 480i seems to have a lower brightness and contrast compared to other SD 480i channels.

I know 7-3 is a sub-channel, but 7-2 is broadcasting ok and it is also sub-channel.

One more question, does anyone know when OMNI going to offically hit the air?

Thanks!

Biggy,

Because they are trying to squeeze 3 sub channels out of their alloted bandwidth, one or all of them are going to have to suffer. Broadcasters will typically keep the prime content on the x-1 channel and will use 720 on the main x-1 channel, then 480 on x-2 and x-3 sub channels, however in order to keep all channels working reliably within the alloted bandwidth the x-2, x-3 channels will need higher compression and generally picture quality will suffer more. It seems that x-3 is ussually the sub channel that get's compressed the most since content here is generally of lower priority to the broadcaster. This of course is entirely up to the broadcaster, but in my observations so far it seems that they put greater priority on the first sub channels and the rest is merely extras that they use to make the most revenue out of their alloted channel bandwidth.
