I have purchased a Dish 500(7200) to replace a model 4000 but I am having problems with it. I installed the new 20" dish in place of the old 18" and ran a new cable for the 2nd. dual lmb. The new receiver is installed where the 4000 was and the 4000 was moved to a diff. room.
The 4000 works great as it always did but the picture on the new 7200 is always breaking up, even on clear calm days. (most of the time it is just a couple lines or just a small area-maybe 1/100th of the total screen and sometimes it won"t happen for a couple hours or it can happen 2-3 times in an hour)
My signal strength is 87-93 on both sat. At first we thought it was the receiver itself so I replaced it with a brand new one. Same problem with the picture, but now I am getting a "popping" sound out of the right audio channel (not loud- it sounds like someone knocking on a hollow wood box).
I have since replaced the dual lmb going to that reciever, both multi-switches, and checked all cable connections. I have even switched the 7200 to the room where I installed the 4000 but it does the exact same thing, both picture and sound.
I don't have a clue what to try next. Does it sound like a receiver problem? Could two receivers have the same picture problems? I am totally frustrated!!!
Thanks for any help.
Bob

Check the cable ends to make sure that the inner cable ( copper ) is not being touched by the braided shield. It sounds like that might be the problem. Also check that when the cable was stripped that there was no residue left on the copper center wire.

Guy,
I had a installer/tech. from where I bought my receiver come to my house and that is exactly what he did. He put new ends on all cables going to that receiver. (Execpt for those up by the dish itself, the roof was full of snow but not anywhere close to interfering with signal reception)
