I've noticed in the past week or so that if I leave my DISH receiver on a channel for several hours (I basically never turn it off) the audio gets out of sync. If I goto a menu screen or the program guide, the audio is back to normal when I return to the program.

I've had my system for about three years and have never noticed this before. Has anyone else seen this?

Mmmmmm....i think the heat got to it...over the years the heat generated by the transformer evidently was not dissipated well enough, causing the chassis to overheat, and an IC chip to start malfunctioning...consequently u are seeing the results of this problem in the synch.....satellite rcvrs for dss are basically throwaway units asian produced, so unless u are handy and can fix it, throw it out and buy a new one, or live with the problem.....it'll cost u more to fix it, than it will to buy a new one....plus the way the repair center's work, u'll be waiting at least 1 to 2 mths, unless u find a backyard repair shop who can help you out.....good luck......billy c

I've noticed that a few times as well. I have a dishplayer that is only a few months old. I was begining to think it was my imagination. I'll watch more carefully now and call the Dish people if I can determine some sort of pattern. I'll see if leaving it on the same channel causes it on mine as well.

Same thing happens with mine. Likewise, activating the guide or menu seems to clear it up. Has anybody talked to Dish Network tech support about this problem? Also, I wonder if it's related to a specific model. Mine is 4000 with IR mods.

Steve,
I haven't spoke with DISH yet - I've gotten so this board is the best, fastest, non-BS source of info for all topics home-theater-toy(!) related...

I, too, have the model 4000 with IR mods.

Hmmm, could this be a side effect of our mods, or a system wide bug that affects older receivers, or even the whole system?

Chester,
I agree, this entire site is an awesome source for gadget-geek info. As far as our mods go, I'm almost certain I noticed this before I added IR mods. Also, in Jay M's response to this post he indicates he has a relatively new DishPlayer.

Food for thought: Could it be specific to one or two channels? Next time I catch it I'll make note of the channel number.

Of course it might be easier to call DishNetwork--not that I've EVER gotten an answer out of them that didn't sound like complete and total BS.

I finally got around to calling DISH. The tech I spoke to said he sees this problem about once or twice a month. He said that sometimes when the receiver gets new data/updates/etc that the internal program gets a little confused/corrupted.

The way you correct is by performing a "marriage test" - with the receiver on, pull out the smartcard and then reinsert it.
He then had me do a hard restart by unplugging the receiver powercord and waiting a few seconds and then plugging it back in.

The tech also said that most problems can be corrected with this method.

Sounds like voodoo to me, but it's worth a try. I'll post if it works or not.

By turning the unit off at the front panel might also cure the problem as maybe your reciever doesn't have the newest sofware availiable for it. If you go to channel 100 and watch, Dish Network usually list the most current software availiable for each unit. I have a model 3000 and 7100 DishPlayer and have only had the problem on the 3000. After the newest software was installed the problem seems to have gone away. To check wich software version you have, turn the unit off then hit the INFO button on the remote control and look for the SW version and compare with ch.100....Good luck..
