directv and dishnetwork?????.....which to choose???...here's the scoop, u make the decision:
picture and sound quality basically the same, both are compressed digital....although directv DOES offer it's dealers MUCH more support, and we do offer and sell both.....basically the same programming , Except that 'dish' is geared to ethnic programming, plus regular satellite channels, with very little sports.....directv, offers its dealers' MASSIVE support efforts, many more channels, total sports coverage of all types
incl.NFL packages and major league baseball to name a few, much more hardware availabilty both new and used, and a much higher satellite channel capabilty for the future, but that may equal out down the road.......why....they have lots of money
after all , they do own general motors corp.....
...with 'dish' , u need an elliptical dish and a multi-switcher to get local channels on the dish 500 system.....for now at least, with directv, around the east coast u dont....u can get local channels, in the ny market , and as of 12/28 in the BOSTON MARKET with u're existing satellite equip.....thats right, as of yesterday , the local markets on the east coast are starting to open up....people in the VT., N.H., Mass., markets , and maybe even more , can get a free preview of the 4 or 5 boston uplinked channels on channels 940 and upward i believe.......free preview is on till Jan 27th , i think as well....we just got a press-fax from directv in LA about this.......now u cable folks can all DUMP that grainy, non-hitech cable company, thats been price gouging you and me for years....REMEMBER, they get their signal from satellite to begin with.........THE PROGRAMMER"S....both are hi-quality services, with basically all 32 bit equipment...so u make the choice....but , memeber' this stuff aint big dish equip, its relatively cheap and in-expensive...and more or less is throw away when it breaks....the receivers , i mean.....so as technology changes, u may wanna update, or as equipment fails, u may wanna update as well.....its sorta like , well...
it wont last forever...or....should i say...when it breaks , just replace it....GOOD LUCK, and HAPPY NEW YEAR .....its the 2000's , go wireles
and go digital young men , go digital! ! ! !

DISh is the leader in local channels. In far more markets and will add indies sooner than Direct TV. While DISH does have lots of niche channels I wiulkd hardly say it "specializes" in these.

Direct TV is your ONLY choice if u r a sports nut. Dish leads if you are price conscious--as for the elliptical dish issue---true but so what---it is widely available and ur unlikely tofind the old dish unless you ask for it---also upgrades are free or closse to it can Direct TV say the same.

Finally if you get a movie package DISH rebates you the equipment cost--Direct TV does not do this though periodically they run other interesting promotions.

Billy,

The poor grammar and punctuation notwithstanding I must say that I am disheartened by your blatant attempt to use this posting forum as a medium for conducting your business. It is tacky, shoddy and unprofessional IMHO. I don't know you and you may be one hell of a nice guy but based on what I've read today I will NEVER give you a chance at earning my business. Tone it down on the sales pitch and learn to give out good useful information and you prosper as a result. Good luck to you.

Bill Lucas

geeeeeeeeeeezzz....sorry for being offensive , thought i was being helpful and constructive....and as far as my BUSINESS goes, i dont solicit, nor will i ever solicit internet business....i endeavor to maintain our profile in the greater boston area,,,,never sold on the internet, either......we are a sevice related company and usually install everything we sell, therefore the internet is totally impractical for me because of the distances involved with prospective customers who want hme theater and/or satellite stuff....as far as my grammer goes, u better check out some of the Aholes on here (the internet in general ),,,they cant even spell, never mind the grammer......geeeeeeez, give me a break

Billy C,

No problem on the grammer and punctuation. It may be easier for you to write but it is MUCH more difficult to read that properly written English.

Now, let's talk about the fact that you don't solicit, nor will you ever solicit Internet business. Here's what you posted. "....ask for Bill or my partner Richie....we sell , and install home theater and satellite
systems, and have been doing same for over 20 years....or just e mail me at SATTV4U@gis.net
...if i am there , i will take your call, if i am out on the road on a sales appt, then please just leave a message....if u are near boston , then please make an appt for EXPERT home theatre and satellite consultation, which of course is always free of charge".

Are you trying to tell me that that isn't a solicitation for business? Puuuleeeze!! I won't even go into the other similar posts to this forum today.

Anyway, Happy New Year and good luck to you.

and happy new year to you, mr. lucas.....where i have a few hours this wonderful week, i thought i just might help some poor souls with their satellite and home thtre problems, and that was the reason for my offering of name and phone number.....as far as business solicitation and consultation goes, i am never against providing services to a person in the greater bostion area, if they should seek us out.....but as an on-going habit, ....i just don't make a point of it....hmmmmmmmmmmmm, but
ya know what, maybe i should.....everyone sure in hell makes a lot of money on the internet....but unfortunately or fortunately depending on how u look at it , we are a hi-tech company involved with mostly comm'l work, i.e....
Fenway Park, Boston Marriot Hotel,NESN sports network,Copley Plaza in downtown, Cheers ,
Fox Sports in greater boston , just to name a few.....so our days are quite bz with industrial work and comm'l work...filled in with assorted residential hme thtre and satellite installations...Member', we aint the circuit city boys', or a mass-marketer.....but these forums become quite interesting, and the prospectus of additional income with astute individuals such as yourself, knowledgeable of hme theater and satellite becomes quite intriguing to say the least.........and after all is'nt that what free enterprise is all about, adding extra business and income....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, now you got my mind-a-buzzzzzzzing.........geeeeezzzzzz do YOU live in the boston area????......are you looking for a job????.....are you trainable?????

Billy C,

Happey New Year to you also. No, I don't live near Boston nor do I need a job. I happen to be in sales myself. I work for an Internet company, HomeStore.com. You probably haven't heard of us. We operate Realtor.com and 6 other real estate sites on the Internet. So, if you're looking for a home be sure to visit our site to see the listings that are available in your area. No, I am not a Realtor, nor do I profit if you purchase a home that you've seen on our site. My sales skills are fairly well honed so I will pass on the training offer.

Best of luck to you,

Bill Lucas

This is not commercial page, or go to market place to advertise your stuff. You two should create your own website to place your sale stuffs but not here, OK.
This is SAT discussion only.

Com,

Hello? Did you actually read this thread. I was not advertising nor posting my "stuff" here, OK. Your comments are not appropriate. If you took the time to read the posts then you would see that I had the same agenda as you. BTW, to the moderator, I do not believe that it is the year 100. If it is I am not even a glimmer in my graet, great, great, great, etc, etc, etc....grandmothers eye. :)

billy c....do you sell remote IR accessory called Xtra Link 2 or an equivalent? I want to use the IR remote control on a remote tv to control the RCA Sat box. This device feeds the IR signal over the coax to a receiver that strips the IR signal and feeds it to a stick-on IR diode that attaches to the front of the sat. box. I've tried Rotron and the RCA RF transmitting cones. Neither work very well (intermittent) and I don't know why. By using a system that feeds the IR over the coax I will obviously get rid of the RF problem.

Excuse me Mr. Bill Lucas the lexicographer. In the preceading thread you spelled great (graet) and happy (happey) wrong.

Since you are deciding to be a cut throat grammarian atleast try to practice what you preach. And not hassle Billy C. about his freestyle handwriting.

Mavis,

Are you going to bust me for typing errors made in a 2 AM post after attending a 7 hour alcohol laden Y2K New Years Eve party? LOL! I hope not. :-) Regarding the writing style of Mr. Billy C, I think I've made my stance clear. If you would like to make a point in a post then it is best made by writing it properly.

Regards,

Bill Lucas
