My 82-year-old mother would like to buy her first flat-screen remote control and enjoy high-def programming. The problem is Comcast is our cable provider, and the Comcast remote control confuses her. Is there a simpler remote control she could get and use (she is not interested in things like dvr recording or picture-in-picture -- she just wants on, off, channel selection and volume selection). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the cable box uses setup code 01877 (Scientific Atlanta)  or 01376 (some but not all Motorola), consider the URC3110 (or 4110 or 4220) remotes.  Probably only available used.

If the cable box uses 01982 (other Motorola and some Cisco), consider the Comcast remote intended for their DTA.
