Hi all,

I've got a Sony VPL-HS51 projector and a Sony RM-VLZ620 universal remote (but not the original remote). No matter which of the Sony universal 5-digit codes go in to the VLZ620, it won't control the projector (all buttons on the projector work fine). By any chance does anyone know which code the projector should recognize? Or could the remote sensor on the projector maybe have gone bad? Any ideas on this problem are most appreciated. TIA!

Sony projectors use either Sony15 IR protocol, device 84, or for a few other functions, Sony20, device 26.42.  The RM-VLZ620 is made by UEI, and the UEI code that should work is 00353.  However, I don't think your remote has that code.

Other remotes made by UEI do have setup codes which can be manually programmed to send the correct signals, but Sony has their own spin, and the RM-VLZ620 isn't manually programmable.

If you have a Comcast remote, Atlas remote provided by other cable companies, or are willing to buy a RCA RCRP05B for $20 (or a number of AllForOne remotes) then we can tell you how to enter 5 digit EFCs to assign a function to a button.

Thanks very much for the info 3FG - you are correct, the remote won't accept 00353. Bizarre to me that these two Sony devices won't play nicely together !

So I'm off to search the "Which Remote Should I Buy?" forum now :). Anyone want to buy a unused RM-VLZ620 cheap? ;)

Regards,

No Sony universal sold before 2010 could control any Sony BluRay player!
I do recommend the RCA RCRP05B.

RCA RCRP05B purchased at a local BB for $18, and is working swimmingly with both the projector and a (first gen) Roku. Thanks again 3FG!

Hi, I am in the same predicament as you were with my Sony VPL-HS51 projector. Could you please tell me how you programmed the RCA RCRP05B to work with your projector?

Use Setup code TV 0834.  Several functions are already programmed into the remote, and the others can be assigned to buttons using the 994 Command with the EFC values listed below.

Thank you very much 3FG. I will give it a try and will report back if I encounter any problems.
