I have a customer who just switched from comcast hd cable to directv service with her toshiba 32hl67 television. Anyway on the directv remote the normal toshiba codes won't operate volume or inputs and while trying the code search a couple of times I got the volume up and mute to work but once that code was locked in it would only control power on and off. the really frustrating part is that every other universal remote seems to work on normal toshiba codes but just to confirm it, at my store the volume works (with code 10156) on every 2006-2007 model that I have left and also on the 2007-2008 models with built-in dvd players, but not the 2007-2008 models without dvd. Of course directvs response is "Oh well, it must be Toshiba's fault" but as a salesman and installer I have programmed literally thousands of remotes for customers and this has me at a loss. any ideas or help is very much apreciated.

Yes, there is half dozen owners of the these new sets on directv remote forum, I haven't had luck in helping them. This is my latest idea:

Program the TV device with any other tv code then toshiba, then make sure its vol is punched though to all devices, then:

1. av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 1-1-6-5-6 or any toshiba tv code

1. av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-3
4. press VOL DOWN

Try the vol keys in the av2 device.

Thank you, I have tryed this and every other volume lock type configuration that I can think of, but to no luck. I just don't understand what it is with this specific remote and this specific type of toshiba tv that causes the incompatibility

On the white remotes, there is an extra signal emitted whenever a vol key is pressed. This extra signal is probably interfering with normal volume, hiding it, obscuring it whatever. : (
