Hi everyone,

Although I am new to these forums, I've been reading them for quite a while! :)

And since I renew many electronic devices in my home now and have a gagillion remotes I figured out it was time for me to ask "THE" question that comes to my minds.

Logitech recently released the Harmony 1000 which based on the differents opinion on the forums is pretty descent, but limited in terms of customization and lacks WiFi capability. However compared to the Nevo SL it had RF capability. But the Nevo fits good in the palm on your hand.

Now I know there are features which really are based on your personnal needs, but in terms of really comparing those 2 remotes, which one would you guys (and girls?) recommend to buy?

As for me moment what I want to control is my A/V receiver which is pretty standard (Sony), HD TV LCD (Samsung), HD PVR (Scientific Atlanta), and PS3(but I know it's only bluetooth so well whatever, we just hope they(Sony or whatever company) will release some usb dongle to enable IR. Although there are some tweaks available with PS2 hardware. But anyway I still will have to control it with the bluetooth remote i've bought for it in the meantime so I know there is no chance for me moment any remote will control it, as the PS3 is my BluRay player).

So those are the main devices for the moment that concerns me... which I am like 99% sure will be supported.

One features that I was wondering if the Nevo had (because of the WiFi) if it was possible to have some kind of tv schedule within the remote instead of using always the onscreen one of my cable provider... but this is just a minor detail.
Budget is not really a problem, but I will not spend more than 1k on those thats for sure and both have similar prices...

So well sorry for the long post but I just wanted to be clear enough! :)

Hey Angel, welcome to RC.

IMHO, Nevo all the way. Personally not a fan of the harmony line of remotes, and frankly the feel alone of the Nevo is enough, (a remote is a one hand item, in my opinion). I use a pronto myself, first step into the universal remote world, and cost was a big factor for me. If given the opprotunity I would have bought the Nevo, although very happy with the Pronto.

I suggest posting again in the Nevo and also the Harmony forum. You may get more feedback there. I can't speak from experience, so hopefully some of the guru's can give you their take on each.

Best of luck...!

edit:

If the design of the Harmony is to your liking, take a look at the Pronto TSU-9600. It's also WiFi enabled.

Hey thanks a lot for your answer!

Is there any reason why you went for the Nevo SL instead of the pronto TSU-9600?
You wanted something smaller?
And where did you manage to buy the Nevo in canada? The only place I was able to find it was Ebay :(
(Same thing for the pronto, is there any online store that sells it for a descent price?)

Sorry Angel you missunderstood me. I currently own a Pronto TSU7000. The Nevo SL was my first choice, however I could not find anything new or used that was within my price range.

Again I personally believe that a remote is meant to be used with one hand, so models like the TSU9600 or the MX-3000, and Harmony 1000 just aren't appealing to me.

If the ProntoTSU7500 is a considerstion for you, there is a listing in the marketplace by Lowpro. I know for a fact that it has hardly been used. He is the pervious owner of my 7000 and shortly after his purchase of the 7500 he became a beta tester for the 9600.

The TSU7500 is not wifi enabled though. So no two communication with that piece.

Again I suggest posting in the other forums I mention in my first post. The guys there can help you better than me. Especially with features and retail locations for each remote .

Best of Luck...!

Hi again!

Thanks a lot for the info!

However I think I'm more confused now! ahah!
People so far in the Harmony forums tell it's not the same range of price and that the harmony at it's price will be a better bang for my bucks...

However in the Nevo forums I was told so far that it cannot be compared at all in terms of functionalities...

Now I do know that the Nevo is more expensive, but from what I can see so far, not by a whole lot (max 200 more or so), so well I'd be willing to spend that much more if it is *that* good! Especially considering there's almost limitless possibilities to personalize it and it fits in your hand.
But I do know for sure I do NOT want to pay someone to customize it... and so far Nevo hasn't answered back on any authorized dealer here in Qc... and I know that I might spend more here for some reason (~1k I think)... when on the net it is roughly 600~800$.

It has been my experience, that when people either claim something is, or defend their purchase with the "best bang for buck" statement, it is an admission of their awareness that what they have isn't the best.

To be less confusing... Harmony owners will not openly say that something other then what they own is better. Even if it is common knowlege that it is. So statements like "Best buck for buck" are used to justify their ownership. Not to single out Harmony owners though. This is the same with any product, remotes, displays, any A/V equipment.

If the cost isn't a factor then buy the Nevo. The Harmony IMO does not compare. I can't comment on availability or programming issues.

Sorry I can't help further.

I just bought a Nevo SL (used) from a seller on Videogon. I think that it works great and is a lot of fun to build menus on. I however am thinking of going with the Harmony 890.

The Nevo is definately WAY more custom than the 890 in what you can do with it. I however like how the Harmony fits in my hand better than the Nevo. The Nevo is a lot better than my older Pronto TSU 2000 but it is still slightly bulky.

I have a Harmony 676 and I think it is a great remote. The only reason I bought the Nevo is because the buttons on my Harmony are starting to die and I need to replace it. I got the Nevo for $400 which is the same price as the 890.

I definately would not go with the 1000 for two reasons. The first is the size. If you have a coffee table or end table that it would sit on and you didn't want to pick it up often, I think it would be fine. But if you handle your remote a lot, it would be a pain. Second and probably more importantly, there aren't enough hard buttons on the face. The Nevo is great because you program the many hard buttons on the remote to take care of the more common commands (play, pause, volume, channel, guide, info, directional pad, and others). The old pronto I had only had a few hard buttons and it was a pain. I think I like hard buttons more than a touch screen and I might be willing to give up the customization of the Nevo for the feel of the Harmony.

I have more opinions on the subject if you want them. I might also have a Nevo for sale if you want that too. I just haven't decided yet.
