I'm taking a little pole to help potential buyers save time.

I ask that only folks that have REJECTED a remote after having used one to reply. You must have used the remote you rejected. You do not have to of owned one.

You may optionally specify your reasons and why you rejected it. Your reasons may be favorable features found on the alternate remote.

This message is posted in the Pronto and IRIQ forums. Only reply once to and only to one or the other thread.

Daniel, if you feel this is inappropriate feel free to remove these two threads.

Rejected IRIQ for the following reasons:

Large/Heavy
No Charger/Stand
Not the easiest to read
Small too regular looking "Icons"
Fixed Button Layout
Problem with my Meridian 561 (IR Range 5 feet)
Sluggish

Ditto on everything George mentioned, I originally bought the IRIQ, but returned it the next day for the same basic reasons as George. I bought a Pronto instead, man, what a difference!! And now that ProntoEdit has been released, there really is no comparing these 2 remotes.

Adam, George.

Read your remarks. I demo'd the IRIQ and liked the thumbwheel/pushbutton control. Do you miss this feature on the Pronto?

I really liked the thumbwheel, but after using the pronto for a while now with my custom bitmaps and stuff, I would never go back

At first I was disappointed with the IRIQ but figured out how to use it properly.

First, the remote really isn't meant to be used via the devices. The idea is to make many activity sheets that incorporate the device funtion you wish to use. The buttons can be reaarranged in the activity creator. THe hard buttons(minus 2) can have any functions assigned to them. You can rearrange the button postions on the activity setup screen.

First you create a main page activity on the remote that creates shorcuts to all the other activities (or if you wish devices). I have power buttons here too and the wheel is setup to do tv stuff on this page.

On each of these place a shortcut back too the main page. Put this in the same place on all the pages so you can get back to the main page easily(I use botton right button so I can use it by feel alone). If you want they can be linked to sub-activities but make certain a return to calling activity shortcut is used.

You can do some ingeneous things with this remote if a good activity setup is used. It just take a little work. I have a bunch of other techniques Ive used that I learned from doing Quake2 aliases

PS As for range, I've tested over 30feet with some devices.

Also keep in mind, the unit is flash upgradable. I will imagine that some slick stuff will be incorporated as time passes. The software is a little to utilitarian currently.

This is the *reject* pole not the *accept* pole. If I had started a pole for why you *accepted* your remote I think it would of overloaded Daniels site.

So far I have seen reject tally of:

IRIQ 4
Pronto 0

P.S. Pronto folks are extremely preoccupied at the moment.

I bought the IRIQ last month and returned it two days ago. I was very disappointed with the lack of distance that I was able to be away from my recieving source. Indeed I also liked the wheel feature but I was not able to overcome all the negetives. I would have thought with the Microsoft affiliation that I could have progamed it to overcome just about anything. So far the Pronto is able to do all the IRIQ could not!!!

I also bought an IRIQ and returned it. It would not learn most of the commands for my Parasound P/SP-1000. I did not like the task-based opening screen and did not have a chance to play with the more advanced programming my dealer told me about. I loved the thumbwheel! Now I will investigate the Pronto...if I can find one here in Iowa.
