Ok, thanks. So you're sure the problem is the remote not working properly for any reason. You completely discard different IR frequencies. I insist in this point because I will to ask for a change or refund to the seller but I first want to be sure it's is really a problem with the remote and not a compatibility problem. Thanks

How can I be 100% sure without testing your remote myself? I'm just saying that it's unlikely that a universal remote would be unable to work any function for any of your devices, unless you have some really unusual brands.
Do you have a digital camera or camcorder? If you look at a remote through the camera's viewfinder, you can actually see the IR emitter light up when a button is pressed, so you could use a camera to see if your remote is really sending a signal.
Alternatively, do you have any learning remotes at your disposal? If so, try learning the signals from this remote into the learning remote.
Now that we've established that your Philips remote is no good, for one reason or another, are you now looking for another universal remote to work your gear? If so, I would recommend that you get a JP1 compatible "One For All" remote, along with a JP1 cable, as that's the cheapest way to get a remote that's guaranteed to work all of your gear. I can sell you just such a remote if you like. I would recommend the URC-8910, which is an 8 device learning remote with an LCD screen. The remote costs $20, a JP1 cable is $15 and shipping to Spain from the USA is $11.50, giving you a total of $46.50 US.

The "elusive" remote control that is pictured is the Philips PHDVD5. The following is how the instruction manual says to go about searching for a code:
1. Manually turn on device to be controlled.
2. Press and hold the "Code Search" button until the red indicator light stays on, then release it.
3. Press and quickly release the desired ode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator light should blink once.
4. Press the "Channel Up" button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator light should blink off with each button press. If you accidentally overshoot the required code, press the "Channel Down" button to backtrack through the library until the device changes channel. Pressing "Channel Up" changes direction again.
5. Press and release "Mute" button to install the code.
If you wish to actually identify the code once this has been done, this is the procedure:
1. Press and hold the "Code Search" button until the red indicator stays on. Release the "Code Search" button.
2. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator light blinks and then stays on.
3. Press and release the "Code Search" button. The red indicator light goes off.
4. To find the first digit for the code stored under the mode key pressed in "Step 2" press each numeric key from 1-9 in turn. When the red indicator light blinks off, the number you pressed is the first digit for the code you are searching for.
5. To find the second digit, repeat "Step 4," this time when the red indicator light blinks off, this is the second digit in your number.
6. Repeat again for the third digit in your code number.
I hope this helps anyone who might have this little unit. I love mine, but it sure can be a pain if you do not have the right information to control it!

Hi. I have a Philips Universal remote, but it's not the one you keep posting pictures of. If I'm posting this in the wrong thread, please forgive me but I couldn't figure out a better place, after reading pages and pages of discussion. My stupid remote just says "Philips Universal." The lid to the battery compartment has a sticker that says "52/05." I cannot find the code book anywhere. Trying the whole channel up & down thing doesn't work because I need the code for my DVD player, which doesn't have channel buttons. If anyone has a copy of the infernal code book for this infuriating piece of crap, if you'd scan it and email it to me, I'd be willing to post it on a webpage and save us all some hunting (and typing) time. Thanks. ekg917@yahoo.com

The instructions for programming this remote are posted earlier in this thread. As this thread is now 3 pages long and is full mostly of posts like the one above, it tends to imply that the instructions are buried and not easy to find, so it's for that reason that I have also posted them in a seperate thread...
