Hey.

Here's what I've got:
Infocus 4800 DLP projector (IR) - only on / off is needed

Paradigm 7.1 speaker system
[Link: paradigm.ca]

Onkyo TS XR602 (IR) - need to be able to control at least 20 functions
[Link: us.onkyo.com]

Dish Network SAT system / DVR (RF) - apx. 20 functions

Toshiba DVD/VCR combo (optical outs) (IR) - apx. 10 functions
----------

My home theater is in a small room. All the components are in a closet adjacent to the room.

I need an RF unit to work all the components in the closet. The projector is IR, so I need the remote to also shoot IR.

I need the remote to come with an IR blaster (or something equivalent) so it can control all my IR units in the closet.

I really would like to keep this at approximately $100-150. I don't want garbage, but don't want to spend $300 + for a pronto and have to spend 24 hours programming it. Just don't have the time. And I've spent my budget on the rest of the system. The "CFO" wont' let me spend any more money - thus the 'budget' remote.

I ordered the RCA RCU1010RF - for $80.

It did everything I needed. Only problem was, it didnt' work. Overstock had to send me two, both were defective on arrival. Then they ran out of stock. So, not really excited about owning this unit. Want another reliable solution.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would suggest the "One For All" URC-9910 or the "Radio Shack" 15-2117. However, if your Dish model is one of the ones that only accept RF signals, you will need to modify it so that it accepts IR signals instead. An RF universal remote won't work RF devices.

To modify your Dish, read this...

The RCA unit I had (listed above) worked my dish. Can you explain your statement? Thanks.

That RCA remote is IR only, so your DISH receiver accepts IR, its oem remote might be RF only though. So the 9910 or 2117 remotes Rob suggested will work.

Some Dish units are RF only, some accept RF and IR. Your earlier post listed the Dish as just being RF, so I was basing my answer on the info you provided.

If that info was incorrect, then my answer (which was based on that info) will most likely also be incorrect. That's how it works.

Hmmm... It must be RF and IR. I can sit in the other room and unit will work.

However, I used the "learn" function on the RCA - If you believe the Dish system will accept RF AND IR then it must have learned the IR signal - and had that 'blasted' to it from the IR repeater.

Sorry, remote novice here - obviously.

It appears the HTM URC200 will do the trick. Both RF / IR. But I'll have to buy the MRF-100 RF (IR blaster) to get the components in my closet to work.

That'll run me apx. $170 total.

A Pronto will be much more, even refurbished. And I'll still have to buy an IR blaster. Granted a significantly better remote, but for my purposes a lot more remote that will go unused.

Any thoughts?

If you're looking to spend that much, it'll probably work for you. You're first post indicated that you didn't want to spend too much, which is why I pointed out a couple of $30 remotes that would do the trick.
