I have a Kenwood Receiver KR-V6080, with the factory remote RC-R0502.

That remote works fine.

HOWEVER, when I use any kind of 3rd party all-in-one or learning remote
everything works except the volume. It just sits still. I've tried 4
remotes, 2 were learning from the working remote!

Does the kenwood listen to multiple frequencies, or sonics or something else
that the standard remotes don't "do" ?

I'm trying to tame an audio-video system that has grown out of control an
inch at a time.

Yes, some Kenwood equipment does use a 455KHz frequency which is out of the learning range of most remotes.

What remotes have you tried it with?

Ok! Now THAT sounds it might be a problem. Is there any database anywhere that can tell me what frequency this thing uses?

Does it use that 455 Khz frequency for /just/ the volume? Because everything else was "learnable" by the remotes except that.

What remotes have you tried it with?

Too many---I don't remember them. Some sony. A philips I think, a one4all, and some others, but I remember no model numbers since I've given them all away. Can you think of any that would do the job?

Sorry - I don't know how you can know for sure. However, I should note that Sony's current learners claim to do 455KHz.

I was going to suggest looking at the Pronto hex from a similar device, but scratch that:

[Link: lirc.sourceforge.net]

Here you'll find information on all the keys from the original remote. They all appear to be using 38KHz.

But, maybe that Pronto suggestion wasn't too bad.. You could try to convert the volume commands to EFC using CCF2EFC and then use them with one of the universal (UEI) remotes. If there's no suitable pronto hex (if the ones up here aren't compatible with your unit), maybe someone will be kind enough to figure out the device and function numbers for those commands using the info I linked above. Likewise, a Pronto code should be able to be constructed.

Then you have a fairly wide choice of remotes that can accept advanced codes or Pronto Hex.
