I recently took the advice of the forum goers here and purchased a MX-500. I went through Bluedo.com. When I got the remote it wouldn't get passed the testing screen. after re-reading the manual I tried again. The next day I called URC. The guy told me that the RAM was empty and needed to be flashed. Does this indicate that the remote is broken, or..... is it that they for got to flash the codes in the first place and the remote is not "broken". Has anyone else had anything like this happen. I'm worried that if it is truly defective, it might become a chronic problem.

Bluedo actually agreed to pay for my shipping to URC after writing a few "unsatisfied customer" e-mails. So BIG props go to them. Thanks Dave (the customer service guy)

It can happen to any mx-500 at any time. The only remedy is to send it in. Do a search in the HTM remote forum.

Actually, I did a search and found one thread that discussed my problem. It is a dead thread so I started this one. The original poster (from the old thread) had the RAM empty problem happen after using the remote for a long time. There were some other folks that had the same problem also. Mine happened straight out of the box. I guess I'm mainly worried about the frequency of this issue. One guy said it happens once a year or so. Scary. No one seems to know why it happens though.

Yes, if you did a search in the right forum, which this isn't it, you can probably count on you fingers the number of times it has been reported. I have owned 3 mx-500's and 2 mx-600's and hasn't happened to me.

I don't think it happens often, like edmund said, if it happened often enough there would be many threads on the subject in he HTM forum. A problem usually appears 100x worst (if not more) on a forum
