Got my Aktis RC-8000 with my Denon AVR-4802 a few years back. I liked the prgrammability, but the PC software was teribly clunky. Got a new Dish DVR and wanted to update the Aktis. It seems to be having communication problems with the PC. I was able to upload the current config file from the remote to the PC, but any attempt to download back to the remote fails. The download button doesn't even bring up a progress bar. Tried new batteries, different USB cable, resetting the remote to factory, removing and reinstalling the PC software including the drivers for the Aktis, nothing's worked. Now I've got an extrememly programmable remote stuck in factory defaults :(

Has anybody seen this? Is it time to get a new remote?

Is the remote sensed by the PC when plugged in?

Yes -- I don't remember the exact wording but a USB device apears and disappears from the list of USB "things" when I look under manage devices. It also makes the XP "dink-dunk" sound when connecting and disconnecting. I also uninstalled the SW and when I reinstalled it, the next time I connected it "saw" the remote and installled the driver.

Hmm, sounds like a possible software problem. Did you install any XP updates lately, like maybe Service Pack 2?

Try it on another PC...

No SP2 yet -- too many reports of problems, but everything else is up to date.

The funny thing is that when I first connected it this time I was able to copy the current configuration from the Aktis to the PC. I then did some minor edits to the file, such as adding a jump in the system command and then went to load the file back to the Aktis and it wouldn't work. Between the time I was able to download the config to the PC and I tried to upload it there were no changes in the PC config. Since then I've tried new cables, new batteries in the remote, adjusting what services are running on the PC, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't have another PC.

Well John, I found this web site due to the very same problem. About the only thing different was that I got a progress bar on a download but it would show 1 increment then tell me 100%. Then the wonderful "device not responding". To get the remote back to where I wanted the programing, I loaded the software on the kids computer. Seems to work fine on the relic. Abit with BX chipset.
It does not seem to like my newer Abit NF7 with the Nforce 2 chipset. I am going to check Abit's web site for a USB driver update or bios update.
I'd hold off on a replacement until trying it on another computer first.
I'll post here if I find anything that may help.

Try this. It worked for me on win2000. Boot into safe mode and run it from there. Good luck.
