I followed up on my previous post of needing a waterproof remote control by buying a Balboa Dolphin Flier remote, and thought I'd post information on it that could help others. I've run into several people who are looking for a similar type of product with no luck.

I'm very impressed with the remote so far. This provides a solution for anyone needing a way to control any audio, video, or other infrared controlled items in a wet environment. It can work for a swimming pool, hot tub, spa, or bathroom. The remote is fully waterproof, and even floats, which is coming in VERY handy to keep it close and easily locatable. My wife continually remarks how great it is to grab the remote with no regards to having wet hands or even to use underwater.

The remote has selectors to control six different components, in addition to its capabilities to remotely control features on Balboa spa and bath control units such as jet pumps and lights. The design is very intuitive for various components, making memorization of specific button assignments minimal, even for special buttons, like a DVD "menu" button or directional arrows.

The remote is fully learning capable, but is also pre-programmed with many existing component codes. I was able to find codes for all my needed equipment, with only a few additional buttons that had to be learned. I was even able to select a completely secondary set of codes for my Yamaha RX-V2095 receiver for the second zone output controls instead of controlling the main unit.

But the Dolphin Flier not only broadcasts IR with every button press, but simultaneously emits an RF signal as well. If you pick up the optional RF receiving base unit, you can place it next to A/V equipment in another part of the house and control items remotely. Therefore I'm able to lie in my bathtub, watching a DVD movie that I've wired from another room and still able to fully control all aspects. Pretty cool. It's packed with just about any feature you could want from such a remote control.

Hope this helps others who have been searching like I did.

Except for buying from Balboa retailers, the best way to get one of these is probably to buy it from Balboa directly. Contact info is on their website. Not sure what they retail for.
