Guys I didn't want to say anything earlier because I didn't want to compete with you, heh heh, but a great place to find these remotes is Ebay (www.ebay.com), either new in box or slightly used.

I've seen Marantz, Sony and Pronto all available in the last few weeks.

The Pronto I bought new because they are very scarce on Ebay, but I bought a Marantz on Ebay (to use at my office) and I paid less than $150 for it.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about inexpensive. There's a Pronto in there that's up to $300 already with 21 hours to go! And another one at $285 (reserve not met) with 3 1/2 days to go. And yet another one at a starting price of $325.

How about a used RM-AV2000 for $100? Or $99 with 4 days to go...

RC2000 MK II's are going for more reasonable rates at $128, while MK I's range from $67 to $100.

I'm sure there are some good deals to be found, but they seem to be few and far between since most bidders have such an inflated value of what items are really worth.

Daniel,
I agree with your last points. Fortunately or unfortunately, these auction sites do indeed resemble real auctions, or even yard sales. That is to say that there are bargains to be had, but intermittently and only to those with some patience and persistence.

But, I don't even have to put on slippers to go to them ;-)

Just a follow-up to my previous post, the first Pronto went for $325, the second for $350 and the third for $325.

The first AV2000 went for $102.50, the second for $132.50. That RC2000mk2 went for $143.50.

Plus shipping! Do a little searching here and you'll see what those remotes are worth brand new, retail.
