I can't seem to upload new firmware.
Holding the page and home button when the device powers up gives me a 'upgrading firmware" screen.
but then nothing happens. The upgrade tool on my pc keeps waiting for a signak..

When i disconnect the usb cable and reboot the remote hangs in the middel of the booting process.

What possibilities do I have to get out of this deadlock situation?

Is the device recognized by your PC (XP shows balloon that new hardware is found). If not, maybe the usb cable is not inserted well enough in the 9800i device. I had the same problem. You need quit some force to insert the cable in the device.

I also found the firmware update software a bit finicky. I had to remove and insert the USB cable twice before the update would proceed.

First time xp said it found and recognized the RC9800i but the program was still hanging so I unplugged the cable and plugged it in again and...what do you know... it started to update.

I'm afraid the firmware update screwed up my remote control...
I simply can't use my remote. It hangs during the boot process.

i need to reinstall the firmware (don't care which version)

The problem however is that the firmware update process requires to push a button on the LCD screen in order for the upload process to move from step 1 to step 2...since my remote does not function I find myself in a deadlock situation

Is there a way to 'force' the firmware upload tool on the pc to move from step 1 to step2?

Could anyone tell me what is the latest firmware and is there any news on a new release
