I have just taken delivery of a rc9800i which I had shipped from the US (I am in the UK). I had to update the firmware from the UK Philips site in order to get it to allow me to say I was in Europe in the setup menu.

I have a few of problems/questions?

1. I can't seem to be able to select music systems (CD, amp, radio, tape in one) when looking for a new device, it only seems to have discrete components. I have a JVC mini hifi in the kitchen which I would like to configure. Have I missed something?

2. My Toshiba TV selects the external source by pressing one button until the correct source is displayed. My old Pronto, I programmed by selecting a tuner channel first, then pressing the EXT button the correct number of times for the source. I am not sure what the RC9800i does, but it doesn't seem to work, when I press "watch PVR", for example, it seems to end up with a different Source selected each time.

3. Any idea if buttons that you do not use can be removed from the screen.

4. Is there any plans to release PC software so the graphics and buttons can be fully modified?

I did the same
Bought a unit in the US
After having arrived in europe, the remote worked but I had the same problem not being able to select Europe during the install process.
So I changed the firmware too. Again everything went flawlessy during the upgrade process. But now the remote hangs during the boothprocess.
The circle/sun stops spinning and nothing happens after....

help...

Hi,
The US and the European software version are not compatible at the moment. This means you can only change from one to the other by erasing your configuration file (devices, activities).
The procedure to do this is described on the Philips website, I will give it here again:
- Switch off the RC9800i with the button on the back
- Switch on the RC9800i with the button on the back and immediately press the HOME and PAGE buttons simultanuously. Keep both buttons pressed until the "waiting for firmware upgrade..." screen appears. Please mind: the buttons need to be pressed immediately after switching on the device and it will take a few seconds before the screen appears.
- Connect the RC9800i to the PC with the USB cable.
- Start the Firmware Upgrade Tool and follow the instructions on the PC screen.

This will solve the problem.

Kind regards

Thanks for the note.

I followed your instructions. But the 'instructions on the screen' require me to push a button on my remote so that the upload tool goes to step 2. Itell me to push a button on my remote...(which obviously I can't since the remote already is in firmware upload mode

Deadlock...

What do I do?

Hi,
I think you have a problem with USB connectivity here. Please try the following:
- Put the RC9800i in USB upgrade mode (with page and home after switch on)
- Connect the USB cable to the PC and device (make sure you press firmly) -> A drive letter will be assigned on your PC automatically.
- If you then start the firmware tool, it will automatically go to Step 2.

Luukske.
