I have been searching to find a IR extender for the RC9800i. Someone on this forum had mentioned that their are 3rd party extenders available, but I have not found any of those either. Can anyone please point me to one?

What are you planning to do with such an extender. The wifi capabilities of the 9800i are solely for the purpose of controlling UpNp extenders and receiving media info on your remote. It CANNOT be deployed for controlling devices in other rooms or out of (ir) sight. If you're looking for a remote which is capable of that look for the Nevo SL (http://www.mynevo.com/) with its wifi-ir extender or the new pronto remote of philips TSU9600 ([Link: pronto.philips.com])

You can user every IR-Extender, what's the problem?
But not a Wifi to IR Brigde, buy an IR to RF Extender -for example:

much cheaper and easier than a Wifi based solution (only $52.95 and doesn't need a setup)
