Not likely, we were promised a long time ago that a firmware update would come soon. We (the users on the connected planet forum) reported all the bugs we could find and they promised to solve them. We never heard a thing again and the connected planet forum is gone with all the information. I have seen they're developing a new remote which looks like a 9800i but is a successor of the pronto line. This remote will be programmable and only sold by authorized dealers/installers. I think all their effort is going into that remote and that they stop developing the 9800i. Sad but true!

I agree with DePampi -- it look like the new remote will be it's replacement and everything we wanted in this remote will be in the new one.

I recently asked Philips support if that was true, and complained about a lack of support/firmware upgrades. Here was there response on 09/20/06..

"Philips is indeed launching a new product at this moment, but this does not mean that RC9800i will be discontinued. This new product is also not replacing RC9800i, since it has different functionality and is aimed at another market segment. Support and sales for RC9800i will therefore be continued. "
Unfortunately, at the moment I do not know when a firmware upgrade will come.
