Hey guys,

I'm finally getting a TSU3000 tomorrow and I thought I read somewhere that PENG doesn't work well with Windows Millenium Edition. Is this true? Any other hints/tips for a first time Pronto programmer would be appreciated.

Shouldn't be any problems with Windows ME.

I had a terrible time trying to get my Pronto connected with ME. I had to upgrade to 2000. Some people are having trouble with 98 and some are having trouble with ME. The only advice I can offer is uninstall any software that uses the USB ports such as PDA or camera software. Next, install PENG and then reinstall the other software. It didn't work for me for some reason so I just found a copy of 2000 and finally got it connected. I know it has worked for other people with this problem. Good Luck...

There may be an issue with opening multiple files and Windows ME. I have successfully opened multiple files on two pcs that have XP, but I have tremendous problems with my laptop..which has ME. IT slows down and eventually locks...stating that system resources are low.

PENG seems to be a memory hog. Opening the first PCF file it took 27 meg of my memory, opening a second PCF jumped the memory useage to 40Meg. Closing the second PCF only released 3Meg of the memory. Reopening the second PCF jumped the memory useage to 47Meg. By comparsion Office word only used 10Meg of memory when opened.

If your ME machine has lots of memory, no problem. Less than 128Meg of memory and you will have performance issues and lockups.

PENG installed and opened on my computer with ME with not too much difficulty.

I did have it crash several times as I opened up too many configuration files (thanks, Archer-yours looks great). Now I realize that it eats up memory! I guess I shouldn't be running IE and hopping all over while PENG is running. Thanks for the info.

I have 384Meg with my ME and have still been experiencing these problems. Perhaps I have another issue unbeknownst to me.

What percent are your resources at? It seems whenever the resources get below 80% in 98 and ME the system starts slowwwwing down and eventualy crashes.

I only have 128 megs of RAM and with PENG open, it's using over 80% of my RAM. Bigger PENG files (like the one Archer sent me) do cause ME to crash on occasion.

I also had this same problem while working on ProntoEdit NG. My PC has 128MB RAM.I run Win2000. I went to the task manager and saw that it eats a few megs for each PCF. Accidentally, I identifed a solution for this. When I minimized the PENG application, abracabra!!! the memory dropped down significantly (from 60 Meg to 2 Meg) and when I maximized it again, it increasesd very little (4 Megs). Maybe, its a good idea to minimize and maximize PENG after you open a PCF!!!!

I installed Windows XP on that laptop that I was having problems with. Lo and behold, my problem was solved. I had opened up 4 files with no difficulty.
